For example, there was no Facebook "phishing" scam. A phishing scam is a criminally fraudulent process of attempting to get credit card numbers. My Facebook account was real.

I've recently been cautioned by my employer not to correct mistakes in the press about our product because sometimes that's a ruse for them to get us to reveal more.

I think phishing is a good description of what you were doing. Not phishing for credit card numbers, but phishing nonetheless.
