To me, this is sick and twisted.

Since when is it better to hurt real, live people than joke, make light of, or laugh at a being that we aren't even sure is there?!

Cuz the Bible says so? Maybe making fun of the Abrahamic god is considered blasphemy. That's a pretty bad sin. Second only to premarital sex.

I agree that if there is a God, he, she or it would be secure enough to take a little ribbing (after all, God must have created humor along with the rest of the universe).

If Mormons are secure in their beliefs, a little humor at their expense shouldn't bother them. It might be in bad taste, but should not hurt their feelings.

I was teasing. Sex outside marriage is a sin second to murder for Mormon's. I was thinking maybe blasphemy was second to that...so third.

For Biblical Christians, it's not that we don't think God can take care of Himself, what makes us uncomfortable is what it reveals about you.

Why would that make you uncomfortable? I'm not particularly a God basher, but why would you care if I was? I would think that was between me and God.

If you never joke about or with God, you might just miss out on getting to know him. Maybe God considers austere, pious reverence as a form of blasphemy.

Sure, fair question. When one is so antogonistic or dismissive or assaulting to God, it makes our spirit uncomfortable because we believe He "hears" that person. We believe in a personal God, one that can and does feel love as well as hate. We recognize that He loves us. We believe that He could exact perfect justice, and that, indeed He will.

But to put it pointedly, I would care because the God "you" assault is nothing like you see Him. And as a fellow human being, with all the faults you have (and probably more), we wonder why or how you've become so antagonistic. In our more base moments, no, we don't really care. But when we are better than that, we care a great deal about you and we would wish you the same joy we often feel (how often, is another discussion)

I would venture to say that irreverence and disrespect of a person is blasphemy against God more so than irreverence and disrespect of God himself.
