Piggy-backing on Shades new thread about the culture of MDB and the need for new Mods, I have listed a few of my "picks" for Mods.

I would love to see folks put their suggestions for Mods here. That doesn't mean those folks will necessarily volunteer, but at least, it gives us an idea of who would be a good fit for the Moderation Team.

These would be my choices. They all meet Shades' criteria of 1000 posts, and not having excessive enemies on either side of the aisle:

Abman
Blixa
Ms.Jack
Bond a.k.a. B23
The Dude
Rollo
Jason

blixa seems very even keeled and active as a poster. The ones I know on this list all seem great too.

I'd like to see:

Porter
Dr. Cam
Dr. Scratch
Pahoran
Nehor

I think they'd bring balance.

Blixa has everyone on ignore. She wouldn't see the posts she would be moderating.

My opinion - don't make the moderator selection process democratic. You guys have to work with that person or persons and probably have a good idea who you think would do the job in conformance with your goals.

I'm all for democracy, but not in job interviews. Shades, Harmony, Liz, and Scottie should be the only voices that matter. I don't think getting board input is bad, but I think it's only as valuable as a tool for filling in gaps in your thinking.

Along those lines, I actually agree with something Simon said. I like Blixa a lot. She's fair, insightful, and a great person to chat with as well as have on the board. But I think the question of how extensively a person uses the ignore tool should be considered. in my opinion - This is not because it says the person could not be impartial. But it suggests to me that after the initial fun of moderating wears off, one should question if the additional responsibilities of moderating and having to read through the crap posts they are currently trying to avoid would become unbearable? Maybe I am selfish when I say it, but I think some outside perspective on this suggests that likability could also be tied to how well a person avoids the stuff they would not be able to avoid any longer if made a Mod.

Something to consider, and not just by asking the obvious question. It's part of an interviewer's job to look past the immediate environment of the interview and determine long term how the job-fit will evolve to the best extent possible.

Also, I hope Simon realizes his past claims about IP addresses is the equivalent of failing a security clearance review in relation to this job. Or maybe a drug test. You've pee'd hot, buddy. Sorry.
