Re: my stake president meeting tonight...once again...went better than I could have ever expected. In summary: very loving man, surprisingly empathetic. Doesn't see any need to pursue disciplinary action. Acknowledges the tough issues. Sees a need in what I'm trying to do. Wants people like me/us to feel welcome at church. I'm quite happy about it all. Will write more soon.
So I guess his SP does not view him as one of the top 10 enemies of the Church. And here is an SP who is open to NOM's, at least on the surface of this it seems so. Also does not seem like John is out of the Church nor does he want to be.

No, John lives in Cache Valley (Northern Utah) -- right at the top of the Mo-Co. I also live in Cache Valley. I'm surprised that John's stake president is letting things go. I still think it is only a matter of time until John does have a stake president that brings down the hammer (assuming John stays on his current trajectory).

Interesting. Maybe he just got lucky. Or maybe the Church is just afraid of the PR nightmare it have on its hands if it came down on John D.

NOTE: THE FOLLOWING OPINION COMES FROM SOMEONE WHO HAS NO TAPIR IN THIS RACE :), SO PLEASE CONSIDER THAT WHEN WEIGHING IT.
I have read a lot from Mr. Dehlin over the years and I am most pleased to learn the seeming outcome of this recent meeting. It is my opinion that he is a good and decent man and it is also my opinion that he has expended much effort for the sole purpose to help other human beings that may be experiencing some form of "struggle" along their journey.
Simply put, I am pleased to hear this information.
I think highly of John and am very glad that his stake president is empathetic toward him and realizes the valuable service he provides to many Mormons such as myself.
All the Best!

Ya. Part of me wants to see this a as good thing and that the Church enlarging the tent a little....and the more conspiracy inclined part of me thinks that the Church knows it can't clamp down on this and hopes to leverage this kind of thing to it's won advantage.

Yes quite amazing that the SP was a human being who understood John. I remember the thread here after john made his announcement and the posts from this board. But, lo and behold, all went well. I am sure that many here wished for a different outcome: excommunication.
