Immaterial matter

Speaking of eternal duration of matter, I said: There is no much thing as immaterial matter. All spirit is matter, but is more fine or pure, and can only be discerned by purer eyes. We cannot see it, but when our bodies are purified, we shall see that it is all matter. (May 17, 1843) D.H.C. [Documentary History of the Church] 5:392-3.
Who would have ever said there was such a thing as "immaterial matter"?

Maybe he's referring to energy. No such thing as energy!

Yes. Methinks you are forgetting the Platonism which plagues the trinity heresy and is the foundation for the fundamental dichotomy between matter and spirit in trinitarianism.

Perhaps a fuller context from which the quote was taken would show why he was addressing immaterial matter. Perhaps he was referring to some teaching that spirit is "substance" (could be taken, ambiguously, as "matter"), and spirit is "immaterial"?

God is Spirit. Spirit is immaterial. And yes indeed, there is nothing immaterial that is material. God, being the Creator of
all things, is above matter...the Creator of it. Otherwise, you must concede that something or someone created that material which makes up the being you call god. Making this god not the creator of
all things, and so you must answer the question, who or what is the creator of what your god is created from?
