A Poster's Weak Faith Damaged by another Poster?
As you know, LDS Toronto is claiming he's leaving the Church because another poster has hurt his feelings, an anonymous poster here and on that other board.
Anybody else have a similar experience?

Could you provide a link to where LDST stated this? I must have missed it.
I don't see how a poster on this board, or MDD could be solely responsible for another poster leaving the Church. I am sure that there are other factors involved. However, I can see how someone's faith could be damaged, particularly if they were treated poorly by a fellow Latter-Day Saint, and that person's faith was teetering to begin with.
I think that is why in the last couple of General Conferences, the brethren have counseled us to treat each other kindly, including our online connections. As Latter-Day Saints, we have a responsibility to be an example and a comfort to our fellow saints who may be struggling.
And, frankly, from the way you and Pahoran act on a consistent basis, this is counsel that you need to pay more attention to.
And, before you say it, I agree that I need to pay more attention to it as well...and have made a conscious effort over the last six months to try and do just that.

I don't claim that Pahoran is "solely responsible" for me leaving the Church. What I said was: "Some of the things you've said to me have strengthened my resolve to move further away from the church."

Well, geez. Surely Pahoran can't be held up as a good example of an LDS member. He can't even be held up as a good example of an LDS apologist. It's certainly not Pahoran's fault Joseph dropped his prophetic mantle the instant he dropped his pants for Fanny. I mean, really.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Harmony, that's *exactly* my point.

Sorry, LDST, I strongly disagree with this guilt tactic.
If you want to leave, that is YOUR choice. No one made it for you. It isn't even remotely Pahoran's fault.
Shame on you.

Of course it's my choice - I've never claimed otherwise. Pahoran isn't the cause of my leaving, he is simply an example of the kind of person the church is capable of producing, and I can't be part of an organization that has that capability. Pahoran helped me realize this, and so it hastens my departure, but it is not the cause of my departure.

I don't think it's really meant to be a guilt tactic, Simon. I think that we, as Latter-Day Saints, do have a huge responsibility to each other. If someone is wavering in faith, and they take notice of a fellow Saint not demonstrating Christ-like behavior, and further, expelling that energy by tearing down a struggling Saint, what type of message does that send?
Notice that I said we, Simon.
I have been guilty of this, too. I wholeheartedly admit that I was rude to Bob a few years ago, and my comment to him was way over the line.
I have sincerely attempted to change my behavior.
What saddens me about Pahoran is that he really does have a lot of doctrinal knowledge. If he could communicate that knowledge, but leave out the hate, I think that a lot more critics would actually listen to what he had to say. I also think that he would gain respect from those who are struggling and questioning. That seems like a much better way to defend the Church, and maybe even accomplish missionary work in the process.
I've mentioned this to Pahoran before, but he has made no comment.

Well the human race produced Ted Bundy and Osama bin Laden. I cannot be part of an organization that is capable of producing such monsters.

LDStoronto was on the way out. I saw characteristics of zee all over him. In fact, I would wager a bet that he came here to get the confidence he needed to leave the church. Pahoran is just an excuse. How a person can leave the church over an internet poster is beyond me. In fact, the way critics behave on this board should send a warning signal to anyone contemplating leaving the faith not to become like such posters.
The critics are terrible examples of what can happen when one leaves the faith.
I intend to lay a foundation that will revolutionize the whole world.
