How long should recovery from Mormonism last? I was wondering if those who have experienced recurrent delays in the recovery process might find relief from Prozac or any of the newer generation of medications aproved for OCD treatment.
Has anyone explored the literature on this possible treatment?

I am on Effexor with Seroquel. However, medication should not be the primary treatment. Changing your environment is the most important treatment option.

Valium, prozac and the like are 'very Mormon'. Won't they simply reinforce l-dsinc belief and participation?

Right. Medication reduces one's motivation to change thier environment, by making one comfortable in a dysfunctional envoronment. Medication should make things only tolerab le. excessive dependency on meds only allows the situation to get worse. Mormon-related boards and other support structures, including non-Mormon counselors are very important, lacking an opportunity to alleviate the situation through a geographical.

You are thinking of tranquilizers that can make one sluggish in actions yet calm in thinking. Prozac has been shown to have some efficacy in terms of OCD behaviors as do a few other medications.
I was referring to those individuals who have left the Church, yet seem to let anger toward their former belief system dominate much of their thinking. I am not implying that such behavior applies to anyone here, yet on another board I visit I have noticed one individual who has been lingering on this exact issue for over thirty years. It doesn't make him a bad person or imply that he has no right to do it, but it does seem to consume much of his life.
