So how pissed off are Mormon and Moroni?

They go through all that effort, painstakingly etching a thousand years of history on metal plates, after spending I'm sure thousands of hours researching old records and determining the best parts to summarize. Then Moroni trudges thousands of miles with these heavy gold plates to New York, and buries them in the ground for Joseph Smith to find.

Then, after the plates have been buried for 1500 years, Joseph digs them up, and promptly ignores them. He does the translation by sticking his head in a hat.

Sorry, Mormon and Moroni. All that work was for nothing. All he needed was a hat and a rock.

I'd be pretty pissed off, if I were Moroni. Maybe that's why they have all those statues of him on top of temples - trying to get back in his good graces.

I'd be pissed. Such a waste of effort.

God was testing them. And then he used the plates to test Joseph Smith.

Next, please.

Aren't the plates are a test for anyone who really thinks about the whole 'plates story'?

Well of course you folks would be pissed off, you seem pissed off, generally speaking anyway. Just kidding...

Anywho, why is it that since we don't know how the translation process worked that means we can come up with all sorts of silly theories about how others should behave? Perhaps there was purpose to preserving the plates, and they were necessary. WE don't know what went on behind the scenes.

Actually, I think Laban should be pissed off the most. He got killed over plates that weren't even needed. I'm pretty sure that Nephi coulda found his own peep stone.

"We don't know" seems to be your favorite defense. But we do know. We know exactly how it worked. No plates necessary - sorry Stem. He peered into the hat and claimed he saw words appear. Then the scribe wrote down the words.

Somehow you stating what you stated doesn't resonate in you that you, in essence, don't know?

How did the words appear? Was there someone supernaturally between God and Joseph Smith doing the translating? Of course you believe none of it, so its easy to dismiss it all, but the exact workings of it, we simply don't know. No defense, just stating the facts, bruthah.

It doesn't matter how they appeared - Joseph didn't use the plates.
