BYU Professor comes out as gay
http://mormonstories.org/?p=1762
He's a celibate gay man. His goal appears to be trying to change church culture rather than agitating for changes in policy. Smart guy. If BYU or the church retaliate, they're going to look like tyrants.

There will be an opening in that department at BYU very soon.
(Nevo, Jan 23) And the Melchizedek Priesthood may not have been restored until the summer of 1830, several months after the organization of the Church.

Do you think they'll trash him? He isn't advocating that the church leadership change policy. He isn't in a gay relationship. He's "temple worthy" and just trying to change Mormon culture to be more empathetic toward gay members.

You do really think he would be considered temple worthy?

He should be - he's following all their rules. It's conceivable they may make up some new ones to get rid of him, but so far he's towing the line, technically.

True. I'm afraid he might become a martyr to the cause, though. I can't see the BYU authorities letting that slide. Too threatening to their status quo.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

The church claims that having same sex attraction is not a sin. This is an opportunity for them to prove that they mean that.
