EFY turning into an indoctrination tool

Post by _Called2Swerve »

About two years ago a friends son returned from his mission and signed up to be a summer counselor at an EFY (Especially for youth) event. He had a great time doing this as well as the teens as they had many fun teenage activities and only about 25% of it was dedicated to scripture reading, journal writing, sharing his missionary experience, testimony meetings and doctrinal discussions (week long event).

Well my friend heard from his son again about this years EFY. It seems as if most of the emphasis in EFY is about 75% based on religious matters and a small amount dedicated to teens having traditional fun teenage activities. Each teen is asked to commit to a life of religious service and dedication throughout their life's.

Is this typical of EFY or is it just some overzealous people running a few of these EFY's?

Church Leaders are trying to "solve" the problem of so many Mormon girls getting pregnant out of wedlock, and so many Mormon men beating, cheating on, their wives. They don't realize that the SOLUTION is the Gospel of Jesus Christ and not talks about "commitment" and Scripture reading.

Men and women don't "change" until they first FEAR the judgments of God. Mormon women have no fear. Mormon men have no fear. The Church does NOT teach them to fear God's wrath. No fear....no conversion.

Sounds as if the program is pretty much like Vacation Bible School of normal religions.

What the hell did you expect from an LDS youth event?

I was active for about 8 years, and semi-active for seven years, and I've been around "Mormons" at dances and social events for about 30 years. I have an "Observer" type personality; kind of like Jane Goodall and her apes. I "observe" human behavior very closely. I also "inquire" quit abit, ask people questions. Ask bishops questions. Ask ex-Mormons questions. I tend to get a lot if information that way.
