Mormons, Demons, UFOs and Nehor

I was on CougarBoard and found a few threads where posters talk about their scary experiences with demons. I’ve attached a few of the stories below.

These were just a few of many stories of battling and exorcising demons. It is a cultural phenomenon in the Church, not just with Nehor.

Nehor's experience battling his demons would fit in superbly with the CougarBoarders comments and stories. When I read these posts, I can quite easily see people I know from Church assuming the lead protagonist roles within the stories.

It’s a curious thing why such matters are prevalent – or at least not uncommon – in the Church.

I was sleeping, when I felt a bone chilling cold in my sleep and heard the other missionary scream like a girl. The other companionship came running into our room and asked him what happened. He had the look of death on his face and his teeth were chattering. When he finally gathered himself, he said that he felt a cold come about the room and he pulled the his sheets tighter. Just then, his sheet was pulled off from the bottom of his feet and he saw some sort of Demonic creature at his feet laughing at him. The creature then jumped on the walls and on our celing and that was when he started screaming.
The apartment was a new missionary apartment that had never been blessed. We blessed it that night.

2. Also mission and this happened to another missionary. He had a brazilian comp. Who the president told him to be careful with. One night, the American missionary went to take a leak. He was mid-stream when he heard footsteps behind him and turned his head to see his Brazilian comp behind him coming towards him w/ a raised arm and large knife in hand. The American, whipped around, still mid-stream, raised his right hand to the square and expulsed a demon out of the brazilian. The american said the brazilian then fell over like a statute on his back. He thought he had killed the brazillian.

One night, after praying hard for the mother since she was holding back more than the son, I awoke with a feeling that something was very, very wrong. Then I heard the words "the demons are coming" screaming running over and over in my mind. I promptly "said a prayer" and felt peace, but I awoke again about an hour later with the same thoughts--"the demons are coming." After a third time of this, something told me the demons weren't coming for me or my comp, but for Olga and her son, so I immediately got down on my knees and prayed that she would be protected. As soon as we could the next morning, we rushed over to her house to make sure everything was okay. As soon as she saw us she said "the strangest thing happened to me last night. I awoke in the middle of the night with a terrible feeling, but then a peaceful feeling, and then I heard a voice calling to me from the kitchen. It was saying my name. I got out of bed to investigate, and when I reached the kitchen I realized it was your voice, Elder Sakar12. And it sounded like a prayer--I think you were praying for me"

Anyway, it wasn't long until my parents got home, and the craziest thing I ever experienced in my life happened. My dad walked in the door and as soon as he did my sister ran into her bedroom. My dad could instantly feel an evil presence and, knowing that my sister had questionable friends, he went to go into my sister's bedroom.

My dad had to physically force the bedroom door to open and when he did, there was my sister sitting in a chair in the middle of her room (I have goosebumps as I write this) looking all freaky. My dad said Sue (not her real name)what are you doing, and in an evil devilish voice, staring with these crazy eyes, the voice said that he wasn't Sue and that he now owned this body. Suddenly, I kid you not, stuff started flying around in the room and my sister, sitting on her chair, started to float in the room. My dad physically grabbed my sister and pulled her off the chair. Now keep this in mind, my dad was 6'2' 240 lbs at the time and my sister was 5'1 90 lbs tops. My dad could not drag her out of her room, and it was so crazy because this voice was screaming I have to stay in this room, I am not letting you take me out of this room.

That evening, as he was getting ready to go to bed he went to put his temple recommend into his wallet, but it wasn't there. He couldn't find it. He called our bishop, who lived next door, and our bishop had my dad ride with him to the church to his office to perform an interview, then they were going to cruise over to the stake-presidents and get it taken care of that night. While they were in the bishop's office at the church, the lights to his office went out and they couldn't get them to come on. My bishop said, c'mon, lets go and they went and did the interview in the car. They then went to the stake presidents and got my dad his recommend. As they were driving back, passing the church, the lights to the bishop's office were back on. My bishop told my dad that Satan himself had been in there and had turned off the lights and didn't want the interview to take place.

And, my favorite:

We go to our room which was on the back side of the house, facing the pasture we had behind our place. A neighbor ran lots of cattle back there. We had a back window that faced back there and I distinctly remember laying down to go to sleep and looking out the window - seeing a nearly-full moon and thinking how bright it was outside. I fell asleep pretty quickly - but not for long. I woke up with a start with my little brother shaking me - he could not talk he was scared so bad. He just kept pointing towards the window and shaking me. I get up to look and I don't see anything so I take him to get my Dad. My Dad gives him a blessing and he calms down, but we're wondering why my brother was pointing towards the window.

So, my dad gives me a shotgun and sits me in the front room. He takes another gun and locks the door behind him to go check in the backyard with a floodlight that we had. That was the longest 10 minutes in my young life - waiting there for my dad... thinking how I could muster the courage to blow whatever away that might have gotten my Dad...

I remember him walking back through the door - white as a sheet and locking the door securely - going for the phone and calling the cops. He would not tell us what he saw, just said that we'd be safe inside and we said a prayer. We did not sleep that much that night.

In the morning we went out back and saw cow remains scattered all over our backyard. Some of them in strange configurations - the sexual organs hung up on trees right outside our bedroom window.

To this day, my brother cannot go to sleep without lights on - he's 31 years old - he swears that the things doing the butchering he saw that night were other-worldly. I don't know what it was, but it was definitely the closest I had come to pure evil in my short life...

Notice that these all involve sleep situations? They sound like Night Terrors or Sleep Paralysis to me.

Demons and exorcisms are a common phenomena in a lot of world religions, even in some strands of Buddhism (where mixed with local religion). Demonology was already quite detailed in the ancient near east, even before Israel came into it’s own.

I bet you’d get even more anecdotes, if you were to ask the posters over at MD&D to share their experiences

Isn't Ayahuasca a prevalent hallucinogen in the Amazon? Maybe they were just eating the wrong veggies.

I would share mine, which didn't happen anywhere near sleep time, but after The Nehor's experience here on the board, I think it would be better not to share it here.

But, it was the whole nine yards... Well, my head wasn't spinning around, but pretty intense, all the same. And, no, no drugs at all.

edited to add: And it is nothing like ayahuasca, which I have tried more than a few times. Even the weirdness was somehow pleasant, after all the purging, that is.

Uh, gramps? A "demon in the sack" is something entirely different...

LOL, Blixa. But this was the real McCoy. The demons you are speaking of are a dime a dozen and can be explained for quite easily. This one I am talking about, I have never been able to figure out. And I have read up on every possibility. Still can't figure it out. These things really do happen. I'm leaning toward some psychological illness, but....

This reminded me of a time I was on the phone late at night with my girlfriend in my dorm room at BYU. My roommate was sitting across from me working on a paper when he asked "Is your girlfriend's roommate around?" I asked, and my girlfriend said "Yes, she is right here doing homework". Even though it was way late, my roommate said "Ask if they want to go out for a drive around the lake to watch the submarine races." I asked, and they did.

We all piled into my Pinto wagon with the two roommates becoming familiar with each other in the backseat. My roommate would eventually come up for air to give me directions as we drove around to the other side of Utah Lake. Some 45 minutes later he instructed me to pull off onto some dirt road into a field by the lake. Everything was pitch black and about 30 minutes into the submarine races, my roommate pokes his head up and says "Ya know...I'm pretty sure there was a cattle mutilation in this field last month." That kind of killed the mood for about 30 seconds, and after a while we all got too spooked and got out of there. Fun times.

As far as demon fighting stories go, my seminary teacher had a good one. He told of as a youth, one night he went to sleep only to wake up to a cold, eerie, presence in his room. It was there he saw a demon at the foot of his bed standing over him. According to him, they engaged in a brutal, physical, wrestling match that lasted the entire night. Finally, at near day-break, and exhausted from his all night battle, he raised his arm to the square and on his father's Melchizedek Priesthood, commanded the demon to depart (which it did).

As the rest of the seminary class sat spellbound with their jaws on the floor, I raised my hand and asked "Why didn't you just raise your arm to the square at the beginning and save yourself from an all night ass kicking?". For that comment I was kicked out of class. As I was walking out and down the hallway I turned back and laughingly yelled "When you woke up in the morning, who won your wrestling match...you, or your pillow??". Haaaa haaaa.

Ever tried to tell someone who has had a night terror/hallucination that it was just a night terror/hallucination?

It's almost as difficult as telling a Mormon that their spiritual experience was created by their brain and not the holy ghost.

Gramps,

I would love to hear about your story. I've also had a couple of unexplainable things happen to me in my life.
