Does one simply need to pay 10 percent of recent income in order to be considered a full tithe payer?

Is a person obligated to repay on past income in order to be considered a full tithe payer?

If it is absolutely impossible to pay on gross income do to taxes and other financial obligations can a person be considered a full tithe payer if paying on simply what is left over or on net income?

It is left up to the individual to declare themselves "full" or not. Nobody is going to make you bring in your tax records.

Some bishops may request that you pay for a certain amount of time before a temple recommend will be issued. I have heard of that happening.

I know there are temple worthy LDS out there who are quite liberal with the definition. Some only pay tithing on their savings account interest. About 50% of active members pay on net income (or something less). You don't have to back pay.

The definition is liberal but if you are prone to trying to be honest in all things and take religion seriously, your interpretation of tithing will cause you to run up to the right side of the scale (paying lots of tithing).

It depends on how much you want God to bless you financially.

If you want God to open the windows of heaven, even so much that you can't received all the blessings, then pay more than expected.

I truly believed this when I was a TBM. Token sacrifices don't cut it. Sacrifices should hurt, and paying 10% on net just didn't hurt enough.

I know a good friend (full tithe payer) who is going into credit card debt by about $600-$800 per month just to pay all his bills. I have even heard that he took a leap of faith and payed 20% on his gross income in hopes that God would bless him with the good fortune of finding a way out of his financial mess.

I suggested that he take a leap of faith and make a personal sacrifice for his family and give up tithing for a year or more while he works on getting out of debt. I know he will never leave the church, and simply making this sacrifice for his family is the least selfish thing he could do.

I would guess that he attends the temple about every other month or so, if you have a TR based upon your TR interview, does it matter in terms of personal worthiness if during that 2 years you are not completely up to par on what you give in tithing?

My husband currently has a TR and only tithes on his allowance. We each get a monthly allowance.

So he pays $4 or $5 a month plus $10 for fast offering. Of course, we are legit bankrupt so that means we really don't have an increase.

How is taking money from the poor, giving yourself a cut, and doling the rest out to your rich contractor buddies for building you a mall and a bunch of church buildings and ice-cream castles "socialist"?
