Apostate Teacher in my ward

I just found out that my son's Sunday School teacher was removed this month. According to my son he was teaching stuff that was not approved. I asked him what he taught. Some of the things was

1. Angel Handshakes: you can tell the difference between an Angel and Demon by offering your hand. An angel's handshake would be solid, A demon's hand would pass through yours, and a Neutral spirit would not shake your hand. (I will have to admit I have never heard about this and don't know when you would be able to shake an angel's or demon's hand anyway.

2. The last thing that touched Joseph Smith's mouth before he died was alcohol.

3. Other things my son learned from him was: Joseph Smith had 36 wives, that Joseph had many children, That Joseph liked to smoke and drink so God created the Word of Wisdom to help Joseph stop.

When they released his teacher he told the class that someone had turned him in for his lessons and the reason they got rid of him was because he was being accused of teaching apostate ideas. He brought large candybars and let the class have a social party his whole last lesson.

I guess I need to go to church more if there are members like him attending. I was just wondering if any of you guys were teaching my son for the last 3 months. :)

#1 was taught by Joseph Smith and printed in, I believe, the Saints local paper. Nothing about "neutral" angels, though.

#2 Well, true enough.

He was the first person I thought of too :)

I knew it couldn't be Poligamy Porter, the Joseph Smith stories would have been much more colorful
.

Here it is:

D&C 129: 1There are two kinds of beings in heaven, namely: Angels, who are resurrected personages, having bodies of flesh and bones—

2For instance, Jesus said: Handle me and see, for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see me have.

3Secondly: the spirits of just men made perfect, they who are not resurrected, but inherit the same glory.

4When a messenger comes saying he has a message from God, offer him your hand and request him to shake hands with you.

5If he be an angel he will do so, and you will feel his hand.

6If he be the spirit of a just man made perfect he will come in his glory; for that is the only way he can appear—

7Ask him to shake hands with you, but he will not move, because it is contrary to the order of heaven for a just man to deceive; but he will still deliver his message.

8If it be the devil as an angel of light, when you ask him to shake hands he will offer you his hand, and you will not feel anything; you may therefore detect him.

SEE! There was also a lengthy article published on this topic along with some information about who can be prophets and receive revelation, if memory serves me right.

No indication which ideas got him canned. Probably not the first one as it's similar to the aformentioned D&C section. But based on the information provided, he certainly is going well beyond the scope.

He should have been corrected and then if he disagreed with correction or continued anyway, then removed.
