Elder's quorum is no place for a non-believer.

It's rough on the ego to have all your efforts as a father and husband brushed aside by your unworthiness to put your hands on someone's head and say some placebic (is that a word?) phrases. It's even more rough to have that sentiment confirmed by your family.

Indeed. But what does that have to do with a nonbeliever in Elder's quorum?

That was the message this non-believer was given in Elder's quorum. I guess I should have said that Elder's quorum is no place for THIS non-believer.

In the LDS church, magic always Trump's substance. You can be the best father in the world. Apparently it's not as important as the magic incantation.

Sure, Elders are still young, full of faith and hope and thus less tolerant of the non-believer. Just hang in there, the HP group has a much higher NOM (rather individuals would acknowledge the title or not) rate, being locked in by their children and grandchildren that they raised into the situation.

Hang in there? Not likely. I was only attending because my parents were in town.

I went to Elder's quorum for several decades. I've never heard of such a message. Can you elaborate?

Obviously, I'm not going to be able to quote the lesson. The basic premise was that unless I "exercising my priesthood" in the home I was not completely fulfilling my job as a father. Providing for them is good. Raising them is good. Teaching them is good. But, unless I'm giving blessings and conducting personal preisthood interviews I'm not hitting them mark. I wouldn't expect any other message in Elder's quorum. However, it's been a while since I attended a quorum meeting and I had forgotten how depressing it can be.

As long as it's ordained magic.
