Lon Harvey Kennard, 69, from Heber City, Utah, pleaded guilty this week to three counts of aggravated sexual abuse of a child. Each count involves a different victim, and carries a sentence of 5 years to life.
(Associted Press)
Or at least have prompted the Stake President that something was wrong...
Kennard was initially charged with 43 counts stemming from abuse that began in 1995, around the time the defendant was bishop of his Latter-day Saints ward and one year after he and his wife started the nonprofit agency.
(Associated Press)
Is the Stake President also accountable for this?
A stake is led by a stake president and two counselors. The stake president is the presiding high priest in a stake. These leaders oversee the spiritual and temporal welfare of Church members.
(LDS.org)
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints allows, positively requires, Bishops to have one on one interviews with minors, mostly without their parents/guardians being present. Kennard, would have done those interviews for minors within his Ward.
How many instances of this need to happen before something changes within the Church?
The next time you hear a faith promoting tale of how the Holy Ghost helped someone find their car keys, just remember that he didn't help protect these people.
Why would the Holy Ghost not prevent this...

The Holy Ghost has asked me to pass on this message to you.
Oh, I neglected to protect those kids because, as everybody knows, I hate people who are vulnerable and like to see them suffer. It's what I do, as everybody on this board keeps saying. I'm just evil, and what is more I spend most of my time stuffing myself with Celestial Krispy Kremes (I'm having one just now, and life here is good ..).
That's all I have time for now, because I have to jet off to Kolob for a really important meeting with HF, Jesus and Brigham Young. I may or may not see fit to give a revelation on this subject, but it will take me time to research it, and when I do give it, I probably won't choose anyone who posts on this board. Anyhow, I shan't be hanging around here anymore because everybody is just so unkind. I am off to see Liz, who likes me. I need to be liked real bad.

I did not have a faith crisis. I discovered that the Church was having a truth crisis.

That's the problem with this supernatural stuff, it doesn't really solve anything. It's a placeholder for ignorance.

It is obvious that God doesn't care about children who are abused. Seems God is too busy with building malls and buying ocean front property in Hawaii.
In regards to the LDS church, it is ASTOUNDING to me that the policy of adult men meeting one to one, behind closed doors with minors, discussing personal, even sexual issues occurs.
I truly cannot believe they get away with this. It is just SICK.
There is NOTHING positive or healthy about these meetings; the meetings alone are cruel, (a twelve year old girl having to meet alone and discuss sexual issues with her adult male neighbor... really?), and completely inappropriate.
Beyond this, they provide the perfect opportunity for some serious sexual abuse and misconduct.
Really, the LDS church has got to change this perverted policy.
I hope any TBM reading this will not allow their children to be "interviewed," is such a manner.
