Maxwell Institute vs Discovery Institute

Is the Maxwell Institute the Mormon version of the Discovery Institute?
For those unfamiliar with the latter:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discovery_InstituteI would posit that the DI has a more invasive agenda than the MI - to sneak religion into the classroom under the guise of "intelligent design" - but other than that they're pretty similar. Both are deeply anti-intellectual but position themselves to true believers as sources of legitimate academic research. Both Institutes are full of degreed persons publishing outside the area of their expertise. Both have a token scholar with a PhD that's actually topically relevant - John Gee, Egyptologist for the MI, and Michael Behe, biochemist for the DI. Both of those token scholars, though holding legitimate degrees, are cranks operating on the fringes of their fields.
Both the MI and the DI fight against legitimate scholarship. The MI does its best to counter legitimate Egyptology, New World archeology, and studies of Native American population genetics. The DI fights primarily against evolutionary biology. Neither have any academic/scientific credibility, but the DI, due to its more visible presence, has seen a lot more scholarly criticism.

One thing they both have in common is that all their members joined their respective institutions based on a misunderstanding. Obviously, they were confused when real scholars suggested they should be institutionalized.
The only thing that would give either organization any credibility is if they padded their walls.

A similar equation along the same lines of thinking would be:
buffalo vs. rain man

Lot of similarities with the poster known as joseph. Active, but faithless Saint starting one inane thread after another.

Let go of the rage, Yahoo Bot. It's just hastening that arterial blow out.

I have to agree with this statement but go even further. Buffalo is very reminiscent of Paul Osbourne in that he cannot process an argument and of course cannot develop an argument. What makes it even worse is the mental instability and hate exploding in each post.

I know where this is coming from. Yahoo Bot is angry with me because he really has a seething hatred of ANYONE who says a word against the church - especially if they're still going to church (Yahoo, are you still active?). lostindc is very bitter over his inability to defend his position on NDEs. But I doubt either of you will be able to find anyone with a level of sanity greater than, say, a Pahoran who shares your rather extreme opinion of me. Just sayin.
And, I note with interest, that in place of actually responding to the OP, you went straight for the silly ad hominems. That says a lot.

This is a great example of buffalo rattling off a rant full of neurosis. The best way to disprove/disrespect buffalo is to let him/her talk.
Carry on Buffalo
