Why I like Sundays in a Mormon town

Post by _sock puppet »

This morning is positively gorgeous. September and October in the Rocky Mountains are fantastic. Sunday brunch served at sidewalk tables in front of chic restaurants.

Today--Sunday--is the only day I do any retail shopping. Going to a matinee at the local cinema is fun, we nearly have the theater to ourselves. Fewer boats on the lakes for water skiing or fishing. Ski hills and snowmobiling meadows are not crowded, and god seems to make sure there are more fresh snow Sundays for us heathens in the winter than there are fresh snow Saturdays for his faithful. I certainly here my faithful friends bemoan such coincidence as if it is fact, anyway.

Thank you, Mormon god, for trapping so many of your uptight children inside church houses and their homes on Sundays. It makes this one day a week so much more enjoyable for the rest of us.

Man, I miss driving from Springville to Salt Lake City on Sundays....

After moving to Seattle, I always am a little disappointed when I try to drive on Sunday and find the roads so crowded :(
Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. Ideas must be distinct before reason can act upon them; and no man ever had a distinct idea of the trinity. It is the mere Abracadabra of the mountebanks calling themselves the priests of Jesus."

One of the best things about leaving Mormonism is how much time it frees up. No more church, no more ward activities and callings, no more family home evenings, etc. It's like quitting a full time job.
I'm sorry, but all questions muse be submitted in writing.

I love it.

Sunday really is my favorite day. In the summer it is Deer Creek for waterskiing, then a movie or dinner. Or, the mountains for biking, hiking and just getting out. The whole place is empty. It is like you are Charleton Heston in "The Omega Man" seeing that the world around you is empty of people.

In the winter it is skiing up at Sundance. Up at Bear claw there is wine, beer and dozens of friends hanging out enjoying the freedom. Or...well, Utah winters just plain suck, so that is about it.

So, basically it is spring, summer and fall with a nearly perfect sunday situation, then for the wintertime, come the doldrums, it is basically shooting heroin or popping anti-depressants like candy to keep from losing your mind.
