Marriage in absentia in the early Utah church

Hey all. I once came across a intance of a LDS marriage where one spouse was clearly not in Salt Lake at the time of the wedding.
I am now wondering if I have come across another intance of this happening.
Has anyone heard of this? I would like to know how common it was and if anything has been written about it.
I'd love to verify this, but the live sealing films are restricted and kept in Salt Lake. DANGIT! I wonder if the record would indicate a proxy for the absent spouse or make some kind of notation. Of course, I would have to show a TR or bishop letter and that I'm a descendant (I'm not). DANGIT!
