What story or lesson will be rehashed in conference

Post by _DarkHelmet »

We know Mormons love to be retaught the same things over and over again. So what will be taught again at this conference?

Joseph Smith translated the Book of Mormon and restored the church.

Joseph Smith was martyred by a mob in Carthage.

The saints experienced much persecution.

The westward trek was difficult.

Thomas S Monson leads the church today.

The Book of Mormon is true

Etc.

If the speakers left out the stories and lessons that everyone already knows by heart and focused on just the new stuff, conference could be over in 15 minutes.

The parable of Sir Bob Geldof, known affectionately as the 'give us yer feckin' money' story...

Wouldn't it be interesting to print off all the talks from the upcoming conference and black out all the doctrine and principles that were spoken about at the one in April and see what's left...

We all do. Besides, it's a valuable component in developing an institutional mythos.

Maybe Joseph Smith refusing alcohol when his leg was operated on.

Positively something about pornography. Maybe a story about a nice young Mormon boy who got hooked and turned to drugs, booze and is now in the state prison for child molestation?

Yep. Have only heard that story about 80 times. One more time might finally drive it home. I always wondered why he insisted on practicing the word of wisdom long before it was revealed, but then I realized he was banging women long before polygamy was revealed so I guess that's just the way he rolled.

I'd be up for pretty much anything, rehashed or otherwise, if I could watch them do it without a teleprompter.

All true. We talk about our truths. It's odd, I know, but we like to do it.

...but would drink beer for refreshment in the Nauvoo period. Wait...what? They don't mention that part when they talk of his refusing alcohol as a boy when his leg was operated on? No, that can't be. COJCOLDS would never leave out information like the Nauvoo beers, and leave the listeners with a misleading impression.

I liked the one where Elder Holland spoke emotionally of the time Hyrum Smith was reading from the Book of Mormon prior to Carthage.
He even held up Hyrum's actual book in his hand, showing the corner turned down at the place he had been reading from...

I also liked the one Elder Poelman gave, although I can't remember which version was the most truthful, the original, the re-filmed or the edited written one...

Maybe the one Monson told a few years back about the paper boy who kept missing the porch with the paper and Monson's neighbors drove the boy to suicide by signing a petition to get him fired (but fortunately, Mrs. Monson hadn't signed the petition, so the Monsons had a clear conscience). That was a doozy.
