That last speaker made the point that Christianity is splintered because it is based on just the Bible, like multiple lines can be drawn through a single point on a piece of paper. But when you draw a second point you can only draw one line. That's why a church based on both the Bible and the Book of Mormon is united as one. Does that mean all the groups that use both the Bible and Book of Mormon are united? FLDS and LDS and C of C are all the same?

I had to read this twice. The fact that Mormonism uses both the Bible and the Book of Mormon (as well as additional scriptures), MAKES Mormonism a splinter group of Christianity!

I thought the same thing... what about FLDS? What about the other smaller splinter groups that nonetheless have their roots and basic beliefs in Joseph and the Book of Mormon?

I guess you have to consider his audience. Or perhaps he just thinks no one will put it together?

I think that Elder Ballard clarified the question of splinter groups in his talk.

How so?

Why limit the analogy to 2 dimensions? It takes three points to define a plane, hence we have the Bible, Book of Mormon, and the D and C. If throw time in the along with the spatial dimensions and add the Pearl of Great Price we have four points defining a hyperplane.

Of course, the whole thing falls apart when you realize that each book of the Bible is in fact its own individual work. So, just looking at the New Testament, we already have 27 witnesses. One more isn't going to make much difference.

In fact, it seems as though the more witnesses we have, the more room there is for theological disagreement. It might benefit the cause of unity if these "witnesses" were wiped out (including the Book of Mormon) and we were just left with, say, the Gospel of Luke.
