Telestial Inquiry RX

Hello Folks,

I happened to be reading the Telestial Forum this morning and came across a post that I want to discuss here in Terrestrial. I typically don't read the Telestial unless I see that certain posters are in there and I want to see what they're up to. This morning, I clicked into a thread because I saw that Liz had posted in the Telestial so I dropped in to see what was up.

I found this:

You're the typical hypocrite/[deleted] self-righteous LIAR so typical of the Mormon women I knew. The Mormon men were right...Mormon women really have the mentality of a r******* child! Thank you.....it was stinking diseased [deleted] like you who made me realize I was in a man-made religion. NO RELIGION founded by God could produce such women! I'd call you whores, but that would be an insult to the whores.

Here are the rules for the Telestial Forum:

The anything-goes forum for flaming, venting, and personal attacks. No moderation. Rated R.

So, if the Telestial is rated "R", and given what you just read by Darrick, what on earth would constitute an "X" rating?

Where is the line between "R" and "X"?

Thanks ever so much,
Jersey Girl

LDST,

Yes, he did. My question is what would this kind of post have to be to rate it straight up X?

Well, I had NOT seen that Jersey Girl.

It's clear Darrick has issues. I don't even think that is the most disturbing thing he's ever posted.

It's probably not the worst that he's posted here. I don't typically read his posts, but I tripped over this in the Telestial. It's okay with me if he has issues.

I'm wanting to know what exactly the R rating means vs a possible X.

I had thought, Jersey Girl, that at one time Outer Darkness had a X rating attached to it? My memory is that it originally had that because of porn spam, but since its also used for derailments that wouldn't make sense. Did derailments formerly go in telestial?

Regardless, maybe the "ratings" of the forums need to be looked at. Like the film ratings they're based on, they're not the most consistent of criteria.

See, here's the thing. I'm from Jersey and I've probably seen it all, done it all and what I haven't seen or done, I know someone who has, okay?

I am no stranger to attack posts, swearing and that sort of thing.

I think the above constitutes some sort of gratuitous verbal porn/sexual abuse of a certain type that even a Jersey Girl finds it objectionable. I mean, if he'd straight up called you a bitch, I'd be fine with that. But I think that the sexual content is far beyond that.

So...yeah, I would like some clarification on what constitutes R vs X rating.

I think I will just throw this into the mix.

Not long ago a certain male poster referred to a female poster as an Internet Whore.

I think the sexual remarks need to be surgically removed from the posts in question. I know that's not an easy call to make, but why is it not okay to say the words “F” or crap around here, but it's okay to call female posters anything that includes the phrase "[deleted]" or directly refer to her as a "[deleted]"?

I'm objecting to this.

Here's another issue beyond the rating thing and I believe I expressed a similar position some years back.

We don't have a lot of female posters on this board and I think that is true of most boards like this. The female posters we do have, I think, are to be valued.

When male posters make such remarks as Darrick has, we have three choices.

1. Try to respond in a civil fashion.
2. Ignore the post altogether
3. Respond in kind

None of the above three choices serve to curb the behavior. In all three options, the post is left to stand.

Picture yourself a lurker, male or female, it doesn't matter.

When you click into a thread and read remarks like that, it automatically sends the message that this is okay.

If you are a female, you might click out never to return

If you are a male of a certain variety, you might register and continue the sexual remarks because that's how you roll.

So where does that leave the regular female posters?

Any one of us is fully capable of responding in kind. Heck, I am the offspring of a Jersey truck driver and if y'all don't think I can swing sexual slurs as good as the next guy, you would be decidedly wrong.

But I don't do it because I don't wish to invite more of the same until this board fills up with so much toxicity that posters leave.

Earth to you, Shades, some of your posters are already moving to higher ground. I think we need to discuss this.

I'd like to see the sexual stuff considered and dealt with in some fashion. It's not okay with me, I hope others find it something we need to address.
