The Mark Hofmann Letters

Dallin H. Oaks wrote:the words "white salamander" could be reconciled with Joseph Smith's Angel Moroni because in the 1820s, the word salamander might also refer to a mythical being thought to be able to live in fire, and a "being that is able to live in fire is a good approximation of the description Joseph Smith gave of the Angel Moroni."
Even though this was a forged letter, Oaks stated it is Gospel and so it is Gospel.

You have to use double, not single, quotes in your quote tag.
Critics?

Don't twist my words either unless you don't mind sounding like the pharisees.
Simon You Criticize others for their choices that have made an impact, yet you sit in your little corner with your thumb up your @(%&! and say,
"I am fully capable of doing such things but the fact that I have no Meatball Sandwich keeps me from doing such things, however I am capable of Identifying a Meatball Sandwich when I come across one but lack the desire to make one myself, so I piss on those who make a change because my Persona Is the only thing that matters."

...inmyward,
I don't get the Meatball Sandwich references, but DHO's 1985 foray into apologetics is interesting on many levels. First, I thought he had more mental gravitas to come up with something better than that. Second, it illustrates how desparate the FP/12 were at that juncture in the unfolding of the Hoffman fiasco. Third, it illustrates how little confidence that the FP/12 had in founder JSJr's truth claims (if he saw a white salamander, why dispute that?). Fourth, it illustrates how gullible the 'faithful' can be. JSJr never claimed that it was Moroni or an angel appearing as a white salamander. Fourth, in retrospect, it shows the lengths to which the FP/12 will twist logic and facts to keep their 'world view.'

That Elder Oaks believed it was an authentic letter, like most people did, does not mean that it was "Gospel." I'm sure you're aware of this and are simply trying to be obnoxious.

But Oaks thought, at least for a time, that JSJr had written a letter about seeing a "white salamander". Impressive powers of discernment that elohim and jehovah give the FP/12. I wonder why they pretend to call themselves "seers"?

Dang, and here I thought the Prophet and the Q12 had a "red phone" to Jesus.
I love watching you Mormons compartmentalize this stuff so you can blather out excuses to protect your precious leaders.
Oaks, the Hinkster, Packer - all of them were easily deceived.
But let me help you out. God was testing the Prophet and the Q12, just like he tested Joseph Smith when he asked him to lie about his affair with Fanny.
See? So easy to be a Mormon in denial.

You haven't been involved much in the corporate world, have you.
Don't twist my words either unless you don't mind sounding like the pharisees.
When your words are wrong, I will help you get them right. It's what I do.

No, I don't. And no, I don't.

I don't know what this means.

Hoffman duped them all. This is a huge tell that they do not have any powers of discernment from the HG, despite them teaching otherwise. I can't think of much more important time to have it. :)
