Why bother?

Why bother coming here to argue with those who don't believe? Standing outside the conference center harassing Mormons seems like a huge waste of time. It seems akin to a believer coming here to argue with apostates/non-believers.

Srsly? A believer who comes in here to present his ideas and arguments is like a person come conference time standing out on the corner yelling at all the LDS folks?
Whose harassing you?
Its never a waste of time, in my mind, to understand how people think, operate, and go about their business. I'm here to learn about and from others.

A few things.
I don't communicate well, oh wait, you're asking what I've learned from others, not about myself? well, I've learned that there is a segment of people out there who can reasonably discuss Mormon issues even though a large majority of them aren't Mormon nor aren't really affiliated in any way. I've spent a lot of time the last few years discussing with the Evangelical folks who are opposed to Mormonism. they aren't nearly as equipped in understanding as many posters here, and I say that knowing many an evangelical was also LDS at some point.
On the negative, I've learned that this same segment are easily distracted by LDS posters, wishing often to criticize LDS, or turn the topic to the LDS individual, or make all sorts of snide and ornery comments abotu him or her--most often, it seems, putting down the LDS person's level of intelligence while not recognizing the lack of reason and thought in his/her own position. I suppose this kind of goes to human nature. we all tend to be biased and favor our bias to the point of not listening and not really seeing the other side, as they say. Its been a strong support of that, my participation here.
Anyway, I don't want to reveal too much. Someone else asked me the same the other day, and I chose to hold off. I'll hold off on more until later, until I"m more ready to 'splain myself.

Yep. I was addressing those who come here to argue with non-believers/apostates. If that's not you... well then... I wasn't even talking to you.

No one. I never said anyone was and my comparison ended with the observation that both behaviors seemed like a huge waste of time to me. There are probably plenty of divergent characteristics between the two behaviors. It is clear from my original post that the only parallel I was commenting on was that from my point of view, both seem like a waste of time.

Is that why you're here? Do you understand why some people become atheists? Do you understand why some people feel betrayed by the church? There's got to be some of those folks here.
