How the Bretherrun receive "Revelation" today

Post by _Daheshist »

The Brethren make decisions exactly like any Board of Directors, or the old Soviet Central Committee, they discuss it and come to a consensus. The only difference is, they have a prayer at the end.

That is how the "1978 Revelation" happaned. It was not Jesus appeared to Spencer W. Kimball in the Upper Room saying, "Thus saith the Lord to my servant Spencer, I have heard thy prayers and supplications, and I saith unto you that the time is right to give the Negro the priesthood. Yea, verily, they have suffered enough for the racism of Brigham Young, and it needs be time that the curse of Cain is lifted from their shoulders, but I shall, saith the Lord, keepeth the mark of Cain upon them for a little while longer, in my wisdom, so that they are not appealing to white Mormon women save the fat ones who can't find a white man to marry them. So let my servant Spencer announce this to the world not in general conference but on June 8th, in the year called 1978, so that it is sure to get a lot of press coverage that way. Even so, Amen."Didn't happen like that. It was basically like this:

Kimball: "Hey Brethren, you know this priesthood-pan thing is just killing our missionary efforts in the U.S., lots of bad press, and also the Federal government is hinting that it might take away our tax-exempt status if we continue it, whatduyusay if we just drop the whole thing? NOT admitting any mistakes of course, but what if we just drop the whole thing?"

Brethren: "Sure, yeah, ok, if you say so, I guess so!"

Kimball: "Great! Great! I'll make the announcement on June 8th, that way I'm sure we'll get a lot more media coverage than announcing it in general conference. Thanks boys! Let's have a closing prayer!"

I'm using some sarcastic humor here, but, really, that's about how it happened.

"Revelation" is when the Lord speaks. according to my old bishops wife, a voice woke him up one morning and said, "Send Darrick on a mission" three times. Good they did, or I think I would have killed my drunken father, or he would have killed me. Now...THAT is Revelation.
