Masturbation and Christianity

Do Christian churches other than the COJCOLDS have a prohibition against masturbation? Is this a Mormon thing, or a Christian thing, or a conservative thing?

I think I once heard a Catholic priest say it was worth 35 cents per incident in the context of having to pay for your sins at the judgement after receiving $14 for each day of your life. But he warned "It can add up......"

If I had 35 cents for every time I masturbated, I'd have a sizable amount set aside for my retirement.

I think the "don't do it" sentiment has been around for quite a while. Maybe early christians that came across the ocean or something. That's where we get "you'll go blind" from. Certainly Mormons latched onto it and took it to a new (unhealthy) level, but I think it's been around for a long time.

Mormonism has a long history of latching on to discredited ideas of the past and ascribing them to god.

There were many early Jews and Christians who condemned masturbation on the basis of the biblical story of Onan, who was condemned for "spilling his seed on the ground" in an attempt to avoid getting his wife pregnant, which he was commanded by God to do. Most modern Christians don't see this as a prohibition against masturbation, but there were plenty of early Christians that did.
