Derailing to talk about Mods

In the Meltdown thread, Mr.Smith had this to say:

Aristotle Smith wrote:...but the moderation here is starting to get biased. Liz can use the word [word deleted to prevent aspie interference] all she wants. Yet when I use the word, it goes straight to telestial. By the way, this is the third time that something like this has happened to me.

And he’s right, but I’m not sure it’s a case of mod bias, but a case of inconsistency.

MDB has few hard and fast rules, which is good. MDB has more than a few flexible guidelines that get called “rules” which are really just rules of thumb, so to speak. How and when these guidelines are enforced is left up to each moderator, since Shades doesn’t baby-sit his mods (from what I know), he essentially let’s them do their thing.

What happens then, is that these guidelines get enforced with contradictory actions. I don’t think this has to do with mods favoring one post over another, it’s just that mods enforce these guidelines based on their interpretation. The fate of a questionable post depends on what mod gets to it first, basically.

What do you guys think? Is AS totally wrong? Is it bias? Or just inconsistency with enforcement?

ETA: This is also a thread where we slam Ceeboo

Hey Stak,

What a monumental let down!

After reading your thread title:
I was certain this was going to be a thread where I could slam mods from all boards.

Disappointing? You bet!

Peace,
Ceeboo

Being a Mod means pissing someone off, no matter what you do, even if you do nothing. I'm not worried so much about Mods pissing people off as maybe getting some consistency between them all.

There is no consistency between bishops, judges, principals, bosses, or God, yet you want consistency from the mods.

Good luck with that.

You are so right, God forbid that such contentious and disliked poster as Aristotle simply doesn’t put and shut up concerning Liz doing things that got three of his posts moved.

Thanks for cutting right to the heart of the issue Harmony, may God bless you and keep you.

Also, the above isn't about Liz being a hypocrit, she isn't, she didn't move Smith's posts. Clearly, Liz doesn't have a problem with a few cuss words being used in this forum, but some Moderator thinks otherwise.

This is just highlighting the problem

This is taken directly from the rules for the Terrestrial Forum:

Do not use the "F" or "S" words or any of their many variants. Altering the spelling or substituting a symbol for a character does not give you a free pass to disregard this rule.

Since asshole does not fit into that category, I thought it was allowed in Terrestrial.

Also, as Stak indicated, I have never moved any of Aristotle's posts for that reason. I haven't moved ANY posts, for that reason.

I thought I posted on this thread already, it must have been interrupted by the phone. Anyway, Aristotle's post may have been moved due to a report that I made. I don't recall making a report specifically on his post, but I have in the past two days or so, been making reports on posts that contain the "F" and "S" words as part of an experiment.

If his post contained either the "F" or "S" words, I am likely the one who reported it.

If anyone would like to know the outcome of my experiment, here it is.

Just recently one of my own posts was moved to the Telestial due to a report likely made by chap. I can't say for sure that it was chap. Anyway, I found this odd because a quick search on the words "F" and "S" gleaned 17 pages (at the time) of instances of both words that had not been moved.

Shades and I got into a little back and forth about this on the thread that was moved to the Telestial wherein I mentioned to him that if he were sincere about the "F" and "S" rules , he could simply search on those words as I had done and move the posts in question.

So, in the past two days or so (it could have been three), I did just that. I searched on the two words and reported posts first going back two days and then just the currrent day I was logged in.

To my knowledge, not all of those reports were acted on. It could be that Aristotle's was the only post that was transported to the Telestial.

Another thing...regarding the posting or mention of PM content.

On the meltdown thread, Scratch referred to PM content from this board that was posted on the Cafeteria. It happened to be a reference that I made on the Cafeteria where it is not (for now) prohibited in a post where I attempted to "set the record straight" with regards to past events.

Anyway, long story short, I reported Scratch's post as carrying PM content.

What I saw when I checked the next day, was that one of the mods deleted the content and stated that I asked that it be removed.

I did not.

I simply reported the post as having PM content. I made the report privately and was identified right on the post in question. I take exception to this.

I want to make it clear that I have no particular problem with the reference that Scratch made nor was it my intention to see Scratch suspended for it. Heck, I would post the same post on this board if it weren't prohibited in order to set the record straight here as well.

I wanted to, as part of my experiment, see if the rules were applied evenly and fairly.

In the past both myself and Ray A. have posted PM content on the board. To my knowledge, each of us was suspended for it where in this current case, Scratch was not (to my knowledge) suspended for the same violation.

So yeah, there is inconsistency in some of the mod actions on this board.

Liz,

You bring up a great point. You didn’t move AS’ post because it wasn’t a “F” or “S” word (WTF is this middle school stuff anyways? Don’t say any f-wordz!!!1!!)

Someone could have moved A’s post simply for this reason alone:

No blatant or otherwise obvious personal attacks allowed.

How many posts in the Terrestial forum could be moved on that basis alone?

And WTF is this:

Keep all communications "Rated PG" to "Rated PG-13" or better.

Movie ratings are a shining example of inconsistency! This is a wide open guideline to could plausibly move just about any post here.

It's Shades middle school stuff. He has said in the past that S and F are the worst swear words you can say.

I am not even close to joking.
