I just got a Kindle Fire and I am relatively new to the ebook scene. Do any of you have any recommendations regarding the standard works and church history reference libraries that are available for the Kindle?

Also what free church related books are available?

I have found free copies of John D. Lee's Confessions, Three days at Nauvoo (the story of the guy who fools Joseph Smith Jr with a 600 year old greek document) and the Wentworth Letter.

Best bang for the buck. It is virtually identical to the Nook coming out and $50.00 cheaper. ($200.00 for the Fire.)

I do not have a Ipad and this is my first ereader so take that into account as far as my impressions go.

If money were not an object I probably would have gone with the Ipad. The Fire does not have 4G (available at a cost but not built in) nor cameras. It works off WiFi. I love the screen display, but it is a bit heavy to hold for long periods of reading. Video of movies and TV shows is amazingly clear. I love the tie into Amazons online accounts and the vast amount of material there. Note taking and highlighting is easy. That was one of the reasons I had held off buying one until now because I write in margins and highlight stuff. However it is going to take a bit of getting use to as far as looking up footnotes and turning between pages. Pages in the ebooks are not numbered but do have a location number reference, so in order to know where the footnote is you have to have an idea of it's location reference number to find it. Once you get used to it, it is not too bad finding them. One cool function is the dictionary and Wiki/Google auto look up. While reading if I hold my finger on a word for a second it brings up a definition, if available, of the word and offers to search Wiki or Google for the same word. On the other hand I have not yet figured out how to cut copy and paste from text in books, something I would really like to do.

I haven't been impressed with the other Android Tablets, but the Kindle Fire looks good, and it is priced right to compete with the iPad. I might get one.

Secrets and Wives: The Hidden World of Mormon Polygamy

The author, Sanjiv Bhattacharya, was interviewed yesterday on KUER. During the interview, he was criticized for having the gall to write about Mormonism from an atheist's perspective. His response: "Irreverent scrutiny is perfectly legitimate. People shouldn’t have funny beliefs is they don’t want them to be laughed at."

Fascinating from start to finish. The FLDS have become experts in manipulating the court system to protect themselves. The stories of Shortcreek, the FLDS town in southern Utah/northern Ariz, are riveting.
