Indeed. I met Poelman once. One of the better Brethren that I met.

I was really disturbed when I heard the story of Anne Osborn, his second wife. She said that she was "called" by the brethren to be Poelman's second wife, even though she didn't know him. She reported that she didn't understand it, but went along with it anyway.

This implies, to me, that general authorities consider themselves to be an elite brand of stud "bulls" who are entitled to their pick of the beautiful successful single childless Mormon women.

Liz, didn't you say that your uncle-in-law, an apostle, was offered a new wife after his first one died, but declined?

Apparently Oaks was originally offered Sherri Dew, but she declined the "calling." He ended up being offered someone else, who accepted.

Russel M. Nelson is another one who had a new wife assigned to him following the death of his first wife.

Wow. They used to say years ago that any man and woman could marry and succeed if they loved the gospel enough. I used to wonder if they'd just start makign assignments within the single adults. This makes it sound as if it really happens.
