Don't Cry For Me, Zarahemla

It won't be easy
You'll think it strange
When I try to explain how I feel
That I still need your love
After all that I've done
You won't believe me
All you will see
Is a Mormon you once knew
Although he's dressed in a white shirt and tie
At sacrament meeting with you
I had to let it happen
I had to change
Couldn't stay all my life caught up in myth
Looking out of the chapel
Staying out of real life
So I chose freedom
Sitting around reading and pondering, too
But nothing impressed me at all
How disappointing, I expected it to
Don't cry for me, Zarahemla!
The truth is I never found you
All through my faithful days
My church existence
Moroni's promise
Is confirmation bias
And as for Nephites and as for church,
I always invited them in
Though it seemed to my faith
They were all true
They are illusions
They're not the solutions
They promise to be
The answer was that even though it's made up
I love you and hope you love me
Don't cry for me, Zarahemla!
Don't cry for me, Zarahemla!
The truth is I never found you
All through my faithful days
My church existence
Moroni's promise
Is confirmation bias
Have I said too much?
There's nothing more I can think of to say to you
But all you have to do
Is look at the evidence to know
That none of their words are "true"
You'll think it strange
When I try to explain how I feel
That I still need your love
After all that I've done
You won't believe me
All you will see
Is a Mormon you once knew
