So, I keep thinking about Zeezrom and his experiments in praying to Athena, and the responses he felt that were so like what he experienced as a believing LDS. I was considering trying it myself, but I realize I have no connection to Athena. Greek mythology really doesn't speak to me.

But then I thought, there IS a god that is worshiped who I already have some some affinity and affection for - Elvis Presley.

Elvis was a bright and burning star. He was charismatic and he changed the face of music forever. He's adored by millions, and like Jesus, he died before his time. Truly he was the King of kings. And some people really do worship him.

So, I'm going to make an attempt at praying to Elvis, and see what happens. I'll report my findings periodically.

Sounds a bit like ancestor worship. I approve.

Here are a few ideas that may help enrich your experiment. Create an altar or sacred space where you can place candles, photos and other objects that are special to you or remind you of EP. Take the opportunity to listen to songs by EP at least a few times a week.

Presumably your temples will have a toilet pedestal on the altar to remind us of the manner of his death?

I once knew a guy that played in his backup band (The Stamps). He didn't have a lot of good things to say about Elvis. Unless you're praying for a new Cadillac, he may not be the best choice.

Well, if we could go back in time, I'm sure we could find close associates of Jesus who might have unpleasant things to say about him.

Actually, I'd love a new Cadillac, but for now I'll simply try to form a relationship with my new God.

That is in the works, yes. The sacrament will be the peanut butter, banana and bacon sandwich.

The toilet thing, can't you just say "we don't know what that is, we don't really teach that ..." It's better consigned to the garbage heap of history, IMHO. Some things that are true aren't really useful.

The sacrament, now, that's cool. I like that a lot.

Maybe we could spin Elvis' death as an assault from Satan's evil henchmen, the Big Pharma. Elvis died as a martyr!

Just as Scientology and Mormonism hate the psychology profession, we Elvists could rail against the evils of Big Pharma.
