Christians are Cheap Bastards?

I was a waiter in my early twenties, and I have to say that nothing would have made me more anti-christian than
this would have.
Do they really imagine they're going to have a positive influence doing this? If so, chalk up another reason it's hard to resist thinking of certain christians as incredibly stupid people.
So, why are christians stingier than other demographics?

As a Christian, I would agree with you that this is an example of extremely poor judgement and if I were the waiter, I would have been very offended by the "tip".

Fair.
So, why are christians stingier than other demographics?
Not fair.

You know, this reminds me of a story I have heard in church of a boy who was given a Bible/scriptures for a graduation present and he was all pissed off about it....but if he had looked inside there was a car key or money or something. Does anyone else remember this story?

Malachi 3:5
5 And I will come near to you to judgment; and I will be a swift witness against the sorcerers, and against the adulterers, and against false swearers, and against those that oppress the hireling in his wages, the widow, and the fatherless, and that turn aside the stranger from his right, and fear not me, saith the LORD of hosts.
Anyone who accepts service from a waiter, knowing that in the US it is almost universal that they are paid at a low rate because it is assumed that the rest will be made up by tips, and fails to leave a reasonable tip except in the case of poor service is definitely "oppressing the hireling in his wages".
Religion sometimes provides people with such elegant excuses to do the things they really wanted to do all the time, doesn't it?

Hey Ceeboo, I worded that carefully based on the content of the article. They even pointed out that not all christians are cheap (which should be obvious based on the size of the group), just that they are more likely to be cheap than other demographics, which is why I asked what I did.
I know not all christains are cheap bastards. Given how many are in this country, it would make being a server an extremely unattractive choice of professions if they all were. All I'm asking is why do you suppose they are
more likely to be cheap.

Never heard that one, but... ugh.

That's basically what I said to my friend when we talked about this article. It's not that they're trying to spread to good word; they're just doing it to religiously justify their own tightwad nature.

That's terrible. I'm an Atheist clearly going to Hell, and I tip no less than 20% when I go out to eat.
That said.
I'm not sure you can lump all Christians together on this one. It seems a bit unfair.

Fair enough.

I don't know, but I would guess that it has whole lot more to do with someone simply being a cheap bastard and has very little to do with what someone does, or does not believe. (In the story you linked, I would guess that this person's "religion" was a convenient excuse for being a cheap bastard and I would further suggest that if this same person turned atheist- he/she would have found another reason to leave nothing for the server.)
