Little girl waiting for the perfect man.

I was sitting in the foyer a couple sunday's ago and a different ward was having sacrament meeting. The voice of a little girl was bearing her testimony. She sounded primary age, maybe 8 or 9. She was talking about how she was waiting for the perfect man to marry. And all her life she dreamed of the perfect man, who would take her to the temple and be a great father, and because of this, it made her realize that she should not settle for less in other aspects of her life either. I thought it was strange for a girl that young to be concerned with such things. I always thought little girls that age were more interested in Barbies and hop scotch. My daughter doesn't have a clue about marriage and having kids. She is too busy doing kids stuff. Do girls really have marriage and family hammered into them at such a young age, or is this girl an exception?

Um, I don't think it is an exception. Maybe a little more extreme than the average?

Our ward(s) did an Achievement Day activity (girls ages 8-11) where they asked the bishop to come and talk about the importance of modesty and choosing a husband.

I wanted to vomit and my daughter will not be attending AD when she turns 8.

It's sad what the church does to girls.

Boys, too.

Why attend anything at all?

To be fair to the Church, the girl in the OP is only five years away from potentially catching the eye of the Prophet, she needs to be prepped for what to say when he pops the question...or was this type of thing stopped after Joseph?

I was surprised what this little girl said to me at my cousins wedding.

She was only 5 and she was showing me that she lost her tooth. I asked her what she is going to do with the money that she got from the tooth fairy. She said "I'm going to give it to the church!" I told her not to do that and spend it on something fun like candy. haha

That reminds me! When my daughter was 4 or 5 she played Barbie's with the neightbor lady. One time they were having a Barbie wedding and the neighbor suggested a beach wedding. My daughter told her, no, they had to get married in the temple.

:/

If your a member of the FLDS, marriage for her is just a year or two down the road.
