[MODERATOR NOTE by Dr. Shades:

Thanks to the helpful tip from Infymus, we're now upgraded. Thanks to the spambot countermeasures now available to me, ALL IP address ranges are now unbanned--meaning you may now login, register, and post from any Internet-enabled computer on Planet Earth.

As such, please disregard the previous material
in black text posted below, as it's no longer in force.]

Dear community:

In my never-ending war against spam bots, I've decided to ban all IP address ranges originating from outside Canada and the United States (and the Caribbean other than Trinidad and Tobago) that have NOT ever been used by our members who live outside of those areas. Hopefully this will mean that I can finally un-ban multiple e-mail address domains, like gmail.com, too.

Therefore, I will refrain from banning any IP address range that has ever been used (even so much as once) by the following members:

Drifting
gramps
imnotwashingmypirate
Kevin Graham
ludwigm
Malcolm
Pahoran
RayAgostini
Spurven Ten Sing

If you can think of any others who reside outside Canada or the United States whom I've forgotten, please let me know so I can be sure that they aren't banned by accident. Also, if you get an e-mail from someone who says that he or she has been banned from here as of today (December 12), then please tell him or her that it's NOT true and then pass the word along to me so I can correct the problem.

Thank you!

(P.S.: In case you're curious, about one-third of spam-bot registrations come from China. Another third is split between Russia and Ukraine. Most of the rest come from nations in the former Soviet Bloc, Thailand, Sweden, France, and Germany. A much smaller smattering come from Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asian countries.)

I think the poster Malcolm is from England, and of course there is Spurven.

I think we have more than a few members from Britain. Does this mean that people from outside of the US and Canada won't be able to join? Will access to the board be limited during international travel?

Thanks, folks, for the heads-up. I have unbanned any IP addresses that Spurven Ten Sing, Malcolm, Drifting, and Pahoran have posted from.

It depends on where [they live]/[you go]. If [they live in]/[you go to] any of the places that those folks that I listed in this post or the opening post live in, then [they]/[you] should be fine.

Anywhere else, then all bets are off.
