Exodus 20:4

Deuteronomy 5:8

Why would a loving God not want us to create divine imagery?

Thankfully, the 10 commandments were done away with. I wonder why God would have mentioned it in the first place.

Yahweh was very self-conscious about his appearance.

Although really, nothing to be ashamed of there.

It appears you already have your answer and disagree. So what's the point?

Dude, ya gotta actually put the text in your post so I don't have to go over and look it up on LDS.org! Geez man!

Ex. 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

Well, luckily, no one follows that anymore. I feel kinda bad for the engravers that it put out of business...well, all the artists.

I think perhaps the reason for this was that the author was trying to seperate their tribe from other tribes. They were reforming the culture, or trying to.

Now, I may be misteken, but I believe that pagans believed that the idols did not just represent their deities but were actually seen as the deity. At least, that is something I have read for modern paganism.

The author(s) of these particular rules were trying to get their tribe to become monotheistic and jump on the YHWH bandwagon. If the text is any indication, they were trying to pull away from goddess and fertility worship. We can see that some of the social reform that was desired was beneficial. Purity rituals certainly would help stave off illness.

Anyway, YHWH was a jealous god. It says so in the text. He was very jealous and didn't want any deity rivals. That seems to be the biggest reason for the above rule.

How many variations of this same post are you going to subject us to?
