Question about nudes
I have recently started learning how to draw again. It's a refreshing way to end the day. I started with attempts at legs for my garment designs. Last night, I worked on perspectives. Tonight, I picked up a book on drawing the human body.
Wow! The human body is amazing!
OK, so I will start on page 1, with the male form. Before I begin, I have a question. This book is full of nudes posing in all kinds of positions, baring all. There is no hiding any nook or cranny. If you have young kids in the home, do you worry about them seeing you work on this stuff? Should I wait until they go to bed? I would like to practice more but find myself being a little bashful about my kids seeing it. Has anyone been in this situation before? If so, how do you deal with the kid situation? Do you hide it? Do you not worry? Do you let the kids see if they want? Do you encourage them to practice drawing with you?
Thanks,
Zee.
PS - yes, another post. I know. So many questions. So many things to think about. Thanks for the place to vent, ask, wonder, and amuse myself.

I don't see anything wrong with drawing the human form. Hiding it from the kids just reinforces the belief that there is something inherently shameful about the body. My two cents.

Re: Question about nudes
Thanks Runtu. This book is pretty graphic and it's the first of its kind in our house. I think I'll stick to drawing after the kids go to bed. I just finished a man standing, facing away from view. Fun!
by the way, I found a new fav painting: Primavera by Sandro Botticelli. Beautiful! More than Beautiful. It is Divine. This is way better than reading the Book of Mormon every night. Thank God I found that book semi-useless before my life ended.

Since you are a thinking person I'll ask...what of that book did you find useful?

by the way Zee... I don't think you have to worry about your kids seeing you draw nudes..it's watching horror films with them that you need to be careful of. My husband (when I went away for a weekend and our kids were young) decided to watch The Fly with them. They are now close to 30 years of age and only last week my son mentioned how he will not watch The Fly now(he might be joking). They were truly traumatized though when young.

hey marg! Are you the same marg I used to "talk" to here over a year ago? I'm so glad you came back.
I didn't want to say useless, marg. I felt it is unfair because so many (a few million) people seem to find it useful. I'll give 'em that.
I really liked 3 Nephi 17, which discussed the tears of this shiny, powerful God. I always found that story profound, marg. It was the closest I could ever get to a Jesus with natural feelings.

It is probably a good thing to associate nudity with art rather than hanky panky in the back seat of Dad's Oldsmobile

Zee Zee..you got to be honest with me. Sorry to be nit picking here but you brought up the Book of Mormon and by saying is was semi-useless to you now means it is semi useful to you currently as well. If other people find it useful and you don't that's their business. You don't need to defend it to please them.

Ok I took a very quick look at that story..but you haven't sold me that it is profound.
by the way I'm just poking you a little here. I like the way you think.

Hey there Jerry Sandusky.
The answer is this:
No.
