Now that is funny. I wonder how long it will remain posted?

Classic!

C&Ping the text in case it's deleted:

Hi, I'm Matt

I'm an IT guy, I love my family and I'm not a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the highly Mormon community of Rexburg Idaho, I have my pilots license, my scuba certification. and I enjoy motorcycles, reading, computer games and more. I am married with 5 wonderful children and a beautiful wife.
Why I am a Mormon

Mostly I am a Mormon because I was born in the church and was heavily invested in the beliefs at a young age, as well as the social activities and friendly people. Coming from a family where very little love was shown, the friendliness of the members of the church kept me coming back. In the last few years, I have come to realize that the church isn't true and that most likely there is no god and no Jesus. Between all the covering up of facts that are inconvenient to the church, the horrible things that early leaders of the church did, and huge inconsistancies on the Book of Mormon with most of accepted science has led me to lose all faith in the church. I still believe it's a great organization to meet others with higher morals than average, but I won't pay tithing to a church that spends billions of it on a stupid mall in Utah.
Personal Stories
Please share your feelings/testimony of Joseph Smith.

Personally, I think that Joseph Smith was a bastard. He was a polygamist who married 14 year olds (without his wife's knowledge), he was a moneydigger who was trying to make a quick buck for his entire life until he started the church, and he used the church as his own personal vehicle for monetary gain and power. He had church members break the law to help or protect him and he had grandiose dreams of taking over the entire united states by sword if necessary. I believe that he used hallucinogenic drugs in church and other meetings to convince people that they were seeing fantastic things. Even when he died in Carthage jail, he emptied his pistol that a church member smuggled in and he appeared to be asking for aid from Masons in the crowd when faced with death. I believe he was a liar, a coward, a philanderer and he was a very smart person who was great at conning people. His buddy Oliver Cowdry, who founded the church with him was guilty of fraud after he left the church and when he couldn't make it on his own, he came back to join the church, although I think he died on the trip. I have very little good to say about Joseph Smith. He was a very evil man who cared more for his own needs and wasn't willing to work a hard days labor for his bread.
How I live my faith

For the most part, I don't. Since my wife still believes, I still attend church with her, but usually I pull out my iPad and play video games for most of church. It's not exactly that I'm trying to be disrespectful, but I find it difficult to listen to people try to say that they KNOW that the church is true when they really don't. Just because people act like sheep and say that they know the church is true doesn't mean that they really do. Back when I still believed, I served in whatever callings the church asked. Mostly they like to give everyone callings to make people feel obligated to come to church, so it has been nice that I no longer have any callings. Eventually if my wife stops believing or stops going to church, then I will enjoy my Sundays at home doing chores or going to the movies, or all kinds of things that the church says are bad.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?
Matt

Matt answered...

Because a large part of the temple ceremony had been taken almost verbatim from Masonic rituals, the church doesn't want people to know what happens in the temple because of how silly/stupid/moronic it is. For a church that believes that families are forever, I always thought it odd that you can't sit by your wife in the temple. Guys on one side and girls on the other.

I've been through the temple a number of times, including seeing some of the changes the church has made to the temple ritual. For something that Joseph Smith claimed was so perfect, it's sure been changed a lot.

While I can sympathize with his boredom and disbelief, I have to say that this fellow lacks imagination. Boys are separated from girls in the endowment ritual for a number of reasons that are fairly easy to grasp. Chief among them is the fact that in LDS theology men and women are only truly joined for eternity when they are both exalted in the Celestial Kingdom as symbolized by the Celestial Room which stands on the other side of the veil. In the Celestial Room, men and women reverently mingle together.

Duh.

Sometimes some ex-Mormons really do live down to the accusation that they had no freaking clue what they were participating in.

That is hilarious. I don't expect it to last long. Don't they approve those before posting them, like the Des News comments? Do you have to have an LDS.org account? Maybe they assume if you have an LDS.org account you're good to go.

LOL. Look at the FAQ for "Why are only some Mormons allowed in the temples?" Compare Matt's evil apostate response to Lauren's faithful, correlation committee approved, response.

When I posted my profile, I thought, "cool, they're being open to the fact that their membership is made up of lots of different people with different beliefs.". Now I just think they're not screening them at all. Or, somebody in the screening department is having a bit of fun.

In the Los Angeles Temple, men and women were separated only by a rope line, like you'd see at an old theater. So, I would just sit next to my wife and hold her hand under the rope. But, yes, I understood the symbolism. I wish I could say I enjoyed the endowment more than I did.
