Like the way Matthew wrote the Gospel according to Guido Reni?
Why couldn't an angel visit him and tell him what the words were?

Just think of how cool a primary story that would be! How would children respond to such an image? The rocks in hat image will likely frighten children more than anything else. Isn't the image below comforting? Would God realize that lots of children will be learning about Joseph Smith in Primary? Why didn't God think ahead and do it in a way that inspires the child in us?

I see it as more universally touching. A child could be inspired by the image of an elderly man's intensity in listening to the child, while an elderly person could focus on the child like earnestness brought to the picture. There is even room for the person in the middle to see the meeting between "the wisdom of age" and the "idealism of youth". I like the picture it brings to mind a photograph outside the presidents office where I used to work. It was a picture of an elderly Jewish man leaning on his walker, he had a big smile on his face as he looked down entranced with an exuberant toddler. The toddler was looking up at the man again in obvious delight. Because I worked all kinds of odd hours and sometimes way long hours my family is familiar with the picture too, a number of years later we all remember it, a very happy picture.

This is the kind of weird thing I missed when you were gone, for some reason your posts often make me pull a uie and send me off to a pleasant intersection.

What a nice image. So long as some humans need fantasy and make believe in order to get along in the world, why not make the associated images pleasant and comforting?

What is with the angry God with a flowing beard reaching out his hand to bring some curse or other upon humankind?

It seems like as time has gone by, the God of Abraham (GoAbr) has become less and less direct, more and more obtuse.

In the Garden, GoAbr spoke directly to A & E.

He appeared as though a burning bush to Moses, and with his finger wrote the 10 Commandments on stone tablets.

GoAbr came in the flesh and lived and died on Calvary.

Then he sent angels to Matthew for the dictation of the Gospel.

GoAbr then appeared in person, in the flesh to JSJr (1st V), sent Moroni (once in a while referred to as Nephi) to appear to JSJr to deliver the plates, but then used the medium of a small supernatural stone and the darkness of that natural hat to dictate the Book of Mormon to JSJr.

More angels to complete the restoration.

One angel came bearing a flaming sword because the reluctant JSJr wanted to keep his marriage promise of fidelity to Emma (and since we know that anything that is not GoAbr's will is against him and evil, it took an angel with a flaming sword to scare the evil thought of JSJr to keep his marriage promise of fidelity to Emma, scare it right out of his mind).

Now its too sacred for the 'special witnesses' of the resurrected Jesus to discuss their witness--sort of keeping it to themselves.

And the most profound thing GoAbr has had to say in the past 10 years is no earrings for males, one earring per ear for females. I wonder if at the COB, the supernatural object through which GoAbr transmits these truths is itself an earring.
