Sai Baba and Joseph Smith

Post by _Daheshist »

Sai Baba (d. 2011) was a famous Indian guru. He had at least 3 million followers in India, and perhaps another 500,000 or so around the world. He claimed to work miracles, like manufacturing gold watches, pearl necklasses, and sacred ash from thin air. Some very famous movie stars were among his devotees. Beginning in the 1980s, some former devotees, men as old as 30 and teens as young as 13, were claiming he was sexually molesting them during private interviews. This continued into the 1990s, when many Western devotees came forward. Sai had a "thing" for light-haired Western teen males. Anyway, four of his former students at his school for boys in India broke into his apartment one evening set upon killing him, but he escaped, and the police shot the young men, claiming they had charged them with their knifes. No investigation was held. Said Baba, who witnessed everything, was never questioned by police. The Superintendant of the Police in that town was a VIP (Very Important Person) in the Sai Organization. There are copies of letters from the "Council" that oversaw the Sai Organization, which basically told Regional heads that the rumors were all false, and to "quiet" them.

Several documentaries have been made about this, one by the BBC, which includes testimonies from young men who claim Sai had molested them or raped them when they were in their teens. The Indian government has called all these men "liars" and refused to launch any investigation. Opponents of Sai Baba say that his organization has spent millions bribing police and government officials in India.

Sai Baba has denied all charges publicly, but one time he said, "It's all in the past. It's all in the past".

Filming of Sai's miracles, when slowed down, show that Baba uses common magician slight-of-hand tricks to produce gold watches and other trinkets and "sacred ash" in his hand. Opponents asked Sai Baba for years to let them film him performing these miracles without him wearing long sleeves, and without him sitting in his own chair or using a napkin, and he always refused. Sai Baba had condemned homosexuality as an aberration of the weak-minded.

As Joseph Smith slept with his own foster daughters, and the wives and daughters of men he had sent on missions to England, he also publicly denied he was a polyamist, and continued to call polygamy a false and damnable doctrine.

No, Sai Baba is not to be confused with Ali Baba.

I know, I know.

Shades is chargeable for this. Smilies would be useful...
