A Plea For the New Year
All,
I propose a simple New Year's resolution for the denizens of MD. Please stop arguing with the mentally challenged. I can't tell you how often I have been following a thread with interest, only to have the thread high-jacked by one of MD's resident idiots. The really sad part is that people oblige these people by piling up page after page of replies to utter insanity. This goes on for so long that even the ignore feature becomes useless. I still have to read through page after page of people quoting and responding to these butt sniffers that I give up a thread as a lost cause, because that is what it is.
I'm not proposing a ban, I'm all for free speech. Let these jokers have their say, I'll continue to have them on Ignore, and threads can continue to be interesting. Specifically, please stop arguing with people like Droopy, bcspace, and why me. It makes you dumber, it makes me dumber for having to read the quotes/responses, and it goes a long way to decreasing the utility of this board.

So when evidence and concise logical arguments are presented it makes you dumber? I have indeed found this to be the case with both anti-Mormons and pseudo partially believing Mormons.
and it goes a long way to decreasing the utility of this board
Only if you consider this board's utility to be obscuring the truth. I would certainly agree that it's foundational purpose. But I feel pretty good about my work here in exposing yellow journalistic and hair-brained anti-Mormon theories. Heck, even the detractors have begun to realize what LDS doctrine is and that is a great leap forward for them intellectually.

Re: A Plea For the New Year
Thanks AS.
I admit I am as guilty as anyone when I chance upon some lunatic comment that someone has quoted (otherwise I might not have seen it). It's hardest not to respond when a friend is being attacked---and there are plenty of people on this board who I sincerely count as friends both online and off. Then, too, it's easy to get drawn into things when one sees the English language desecrated: long strings of synonyms, unnecessary clauses, and misused quotation marks are some of the things that are like fingers on a blackboard to me. And remarks that betray a near complete historical ignorance, well those are the most difficult to let pass.
But I resolve to do better.
