There used to be the occasional bright bulb on the tree who would at least TRY to defend the foundational, definitive claims of their religion. In every debate, the Mormons now INVARIABLY fail to meet the burden of proof, which was always the case. But now they even refuse to TRY. There was a time when they tried, but those days are long gone, at least in my many years of almost daily experience. All they do now is deflect, evade and do their best to change the subject. Their debate tactics are as easy to spot as they are to defeat. Sadly, many LD$ critics at places like CARM and Walter Martin let them get away with such adolescent tactics by following their lead down one irrelevant rhetorical rabbit trail after another. By the end of any discussion, its often very difficult to even tell what the subject of the debate really was.

But the one thing they absolutely CANNOT do is provide any evidence or fact based arguments based on simple, valid reasoning. Their arguments ALWAYS and without exception consist of evasions and retreats behind the subjective. Questions about the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon will invariably turn into debates about "faith" (as if the facts of Mesoamerican history are a matter of faith), personal "testimony" (as if emotional reactions is the means to establish historical truth) or questions about the character of those who dare to question what LD$, Inc. tells its victims to "think".

It is amazing to observe how the deceived mind works. It creates fantasies out of wishful thinking which it mistakes for "evidence" and accepts fallacious gibberish as valid argumentation. We see this behavior in many of the cults, but the Mormoids take the cake when it comes to providing public demonstrations of the effects of cult mind control on its victims.
