Brian...What exactly is your history with the Mormon Church? How many actual Mormons do you know and interact with in real life? You seem to describe Mormons with a very broad stroke. I am curious as to how you arrived at the conclusions you have.

Yes, I'd like to hear your story too, Brian.

Me too. There must be a fascinating story that led to Brian making such a bigoted statement about a large and diverse group of people. As LDST said, it's fine to criticize the church and its teachings; it's not cool at all to attack Mormons as a group or as individuals.

BrianH wrote:I have been debating Mormons for over three DECADES. I am astonished at how mindless and dim-witted they are as a class of people. There used to be the occasional bright bulb on the tree who would at least TRY to defend the foundational, definitive claims of their religion. It was fun to actually have to think a little bit to defeat the boilerplate pseudo-scholarship prepared for the masses of "faithful", true believers. No more. In the last 10 years or so, I have observed Mormons giving up altogether on even trying to provide a cogent defense for the claims of their organization. I have to wonder ...have they started putting something in the water down at the LDS "temples"?

In every debate, the Mormons now INVARIABLY fail to meet the burden of proof, which was always the case. But now they even refuse to TRY. There was a time when they tried, but those days are long gone, at least in my many years of almost daily experience. All they do now is deflect, evade and do their best to change the subject. Their debate tactics are as easy to spot as they are to defeat. Sadly, many LD$ critics at places like CARM and Walter Martin let them get away with such adolescent tactics by following their lead down one irrelevant rhetorical rabbit trail after another. By the end of any discussion, its often very difficult to even tell what the subject of the debate really was.

But the one thing they absolutely CANNOT do is provide any evidence or fact based arguments based on simple, valid reasoning. Their arguments ALWAYS and without exception consist of evasions and retreats behind the subjective. Questions about the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon will invariably turn into debates about "faith" (as if the facts of Mesoamerican history are a matter of faith), personal "testimony" (as if emotional reactions is the means to establish historical truth) or questions about the character of those who dare to question what LD$, Inc. tells its victims to "think".

It is amazing to observe how the deceived mind works. It creates fantasies out of wishful thinking which it mistakes for "evidence" and accepts fallacious gibberish as valid argumentation. We see this behavior in many of the cults, but the Mormoids take the cake when it comes to providing public demonstrations of the effects of cult mind control on its victims.

ouch, I see (with another thread as well) that he has come in like a bull in a china closet, not having the slightest clue as to the background and situation of respected posters here, whom he immediately pounces upon.

Running into battle quickly, as if armored with nothing more than hitting the front in his underwear, swinging his sword wildly at anything that moves.

BrianH ... you can put me on your list, I'm a Mormon as well.

This should prove interesting. Maybe we have found the counter-schryver?

Happy new year!

Broad paint strokes......yes
Ugliness......maybe
"Maybe we have found the counter-schryver?" Is it possible for the pendulum to swing that far?

Personally, I think BrianH is frustrated with TBM posters and their arguments.

What do they say -- "know your audience".

Funny how such a strong attitude can instantly turn allies into foes.

Hopefully he will settle down, or is indeed simply an Evangelist fulfilling his requirement to cry repentance to the Mormons and quickly disappears like they tend to do.

They (Evangelist, yes as a whole, every single one of them, hehe) have a limited attention span after the first ambush battle has been won. Victory! on-ward to the next battle, with truth and justice on their side.
