What do you think about HF's big proposal?

Do you think the way Heavenly Father proposed marriage to his first wife was romantic?

How do you think he did it?

If you voted no, why did you vote no?

Thanks!

Zee.

There was no proposal. Sorry, zee. They're not married.

They met in a forest by a brook and were instantly attracted to each other. They made wild, passionate love in a small clearing on the soft, lush grass surrounded by the scent of sandalwood, vanilla and oak.

They left the clearing with hands clasped firmly together.

Boy, this thread sure generated a lot of interest... :)

Wow, Just Me. That sounds glorious! I love that path though it is not mine. I follow a different religion but I could easily be converted to yours!

I just watched Miss Representation. Oh my goodness. The fact that God was able to 1. Work up the courage to become an independent woman and 2. Go head to head against the God of Abraham is all the more profound to me after watching that movie.

Time to think about this...

Well what about Jupiter and all his "wives?" Was he romantic with all of them? I know that Correggio is famous for the look of "joy" on Io's face here, but this painting always struck me as fairly troubling:

(I think it must strike others that way too; when googling for an image of this painting, I found many photoshopped versions which made Correggio's famously indistinct face and hand of god more distinct and human.)

Zee,

Not to derail your thread, maybe it will even give it some traction, but why does God need/want a wife/husband?

Thanks Fence Sitter! Of course you aren't derailing the thread. This is exactly the question I have been thinking about for a long time. To be honest and upfront with you, I am really attacking the whole Mormon notion of Gods and eternal marriage with my posts. I believe these topics should be explored thoroughly and to date, they have not been.

Blixa,

I just noticed this same painting a couple of days ago. I have this big book of paintings from the library and next to each painting is a short description. I fully expected the description to say, "The Virgin Mary being overshadowed by the Holy Spirit". I was surprised to find something else.

I'm still disturbed he raped a woman (virgin in this case), and people don't seem to mind.

It would have been nice to know that the Spirit and Mary became friends first. This is not recorded in the Canon, but maybe they went on some dates first. I know, I know. That was not the cultural practice of the day...

I don't believe the average LDS understands the implications of eternal marriage on the nature of God. We seem to insist on assigning human emotions and needs to God. Why?
