Funny incident in church regarding revelation

Post by _Buffalo »

The topic for sacrament meeting was "revelation." One of the speakers had forgotten the topic, and over the weekend tried to get a hold of a member of the bishopric to find out what the topic was again. They were never able to connect, so this speaker prayed for inspiration in getting the topic right.

This speaker's divinely-revealed topic? Repentance.

As usual, this stuff never works when there's a way to falsify it.

Heh. That's funny. Was this really the case or was this the joke the speaker opened up with? Seriously.

Turns out his talk preparation was an object lesson on revelation...or the lack of it....rather than a talk on repentance.

The talk really was about repentance, but they tried to shoehorn in the word revelation in there (revelation that we need to repent, etc) occasionally.

I agree. That's actually pretty impressive. The speaker hasn't quite perfected his revelation powers, but he's getting there. It reminds me of that old TV show "Greatest American Hero" where the guy finds the superhero suit in the desert and puts it on. The first season he was clumsy with his powers, flying awkwardly and crashing into billboards, but he eventually got pretty good. It's the same with spiritual powers.

Our Stake mandated most speakers in Sacrament meeting chose their own topics by revelation. Loose cannons get an assigned topic if asked to speak at all.

Why did the Holy Ghost give our speaker the wrong topic?

It seems that the whole episode was a revelation.
This, or any other post that I have made or will make in the future, is strictly my own opinion and consequently of little or no value.

Indeed! I suspect that most in the congregation treated the irritating incongruity to a bath of confirmation biasonate and then ejected it, pearl-like, from their minds.
