Hey All,

As is often the case, real life inspires a new topic. :-) I am working on a bit of sewing today and it's Sunday. I have to admit that whenever this happens, which isn't often since I avoid sewing like the plague, I cannot help but recall a little proverb that my mother used to share for just such an occasion.

"If you sew on Sunday, you'll have to take the stitches out with your nose when you die".

What are some examples of LDS types of proverbs or words of wisdom?

Anyways, I can't think of too many off the top of my head, but one that comes up during Word of Wisdom talks/lessons is, "Many Mormons are digging their graves with a knife and fork".

I don't know what the hell it means! But it still comes to mind having heard it repeated throughout my childhood and I still smile when I think of it! :-)

It had to be handed down from my maternal great grandmother who was Scottish. I don't know if that has anything to do with the origin or not.

Okay, here's another one, not quite fitting the category but it comes from my growing up years at the Shore.

"Red sky at night, Sailor's Delight
Red sky at morning, Sailor's Warning"

It seemed to be true, or I might have simply believed it was true. I still recall it when I see the red sky while driving to work...and smile.

This is kind of lame, but there's "the Holy Ghost goes to bed at midnight" or fill in 11 oclock, or whatever other curfew time the given Mormon wants to set up for their kids.

If you go to the dance in that miniskirt,
You'll find your heavenly home in a yurt.

It hasn't been used much but I plan to use it with my daughter.

Like it! However, I would gladly live in a yurt!

I'm hand sewing while posting and I have to say I feel a bit guilty about sewing on Sunday. See how much power these proverbs have over people?
