Why yes, yes they do. But you can't go there. There are no gigs for Altar Boys.

On so many levels........Wow!

Frankly, I'm a little stunned. I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do yet, but I am thinking that, if my ward can call me and my wife out during a sacrament meeting, with my kids in attendance, then I am well within my rights to be a bit more vocal with some of the reasons I've left the church.

To date, I've been extremely respectful, refusing to elaborate beyond, "I have discovered some things that don't sit well with me, and I don't want to cause you to doubt". However, this really pisses me off. Time for the kimono to open up.

Sounds like Hot coffee and desert are tenents ... where do I sign up?

I have to tell you this, Rock. I don't attend services any longer due to certain disagreements I had with some stuff that went down, but you could smell the coffee brewing when you walked in the door for Sunday School and Worship Service and have yourself a cup prior to going to class, after class and after Worship Service...during potlucks, etc.

Yeah, bunch of caffeine addicts!

Now back to LDST's issues which are far more important than coffee and Baptists.

And if they did it with my daughter in the room . . . well, what can I say. I'd probably be writing a letter to every local LDS leader in the area expressing my outrage that someone would disrespect my daughter's mother in front of her and the entire congregation. I'd be calling for that person to be reprimanded and not given any more speaking assignments any time in the near future.

I realize that ex-member or inactive-disbelieving-member is not exactly the same to Mormons as never-member, but still. I say let that ward mission leader know in no uncertain terms that he was way out of line, and if he doesn't apologize, then raise whatever hell you can. And let them know that if they really love you, disrespecting you in front of your children is the wrong way to go about it.

Thanks, MsJack - you have put to words how I feel right now.

Well, I guess today was Missionary Day at The Polka Dot Door because a new convert, a ward missionary, and the ward mission leader all spoke. Well, I and my wife proved to be bright examples of apostasy, because the ward mission leader pointed out that many in the church have lost their way, and named dear wife and I as prime examples. That's right, called us by name. Said he really missed me in quorum meetings, missed my wife teaching Sunday School, but unfortunately we have lost our way. Though, he said, he still loves us.

If this had happened to me, I would have immediately rose up out of my seat, walked out the door and taken my family with me. In other words, it would have driven me away entirely.

I've been called out at a Baptist Church and I'm not even an apostate Baptist. The pastor gave a mini-sermon on the role of the heart and the intellect, and how special gifts cause pride, with me being used as an example right in front of me. (Turns out the reason my 17 year old self didn't buy their terrible arguments is that I'm a prideful intellectual who doesn't know how to open up his heart.) The pastor even led an entire congregation in prayer for me in front of me. So, uh, yeah.

I was making a joke.

I'm sorry, EA. I know it does happen and I condemn it whenever I see it. This sort of thing is not charitable, gracious, .... or even biblical.

I'm pretty stunned. That is extremely tactless and unbelievably rude, just in terms of social manners. In terms of loving pastoral care, it is off the charts.
