What's not to love about this story? A man hears a voice in his head tell him to kill his son (just like those "evil" religions supposedly do) and he is righteous enough to harken the call!

Standard exegesis on that story is that pre-Abrahamic religion involved ritual human sacrifice and one of the first things the God of the Old Testament did when he arrived on the scene was to ban the practice.
