F.A.I.R...........trading in Old Lies for New

F.A.I.R. is still lying....just the lies have changed.

F.A.I.R. (Foundation for Apologetics, Information, and Research), founded by Scott Gordon of Redlands, California, is the Internet based "think tank" for Mormon apologists. Up until last year, its articles on "blacks and the priesthood" and "the curse of Cain" basically said that the Church NEVER taught that blacks were cursed, NEVER taught that blacks were the children of Cain, NEVER taught that blacks were less valiant in the War in Heaven, but "some Members" may have believed that at one time. Basically, FAIR was just reiterating the lies of LDS Public Affairs.

Well...that has changed. Now FAIR has a "NEW SHINNY LIE": that YES certain Members, maybe even some leaders, taught these things in the past, but "Prophets do not always speak as Prophets". In other words, when they taught the Curse of Cain Doctrine in General Conference, or in Letters signed by the First Presidency wherein they called it "the doctrine of the Church", these good Brethren were not speaking for the LORD nor even speaking for the Church! In other words, "Prophets are not speaking as Prophets" if FAIR does not like what the "Prophets" have to say.

And if you believe what FAIR tells you about this...I got a bridge in London I'd love to sell you.....TWICE!

When will FAIR, or the Brethren finally ever LEARN, that "lies" and "equivocations" have a very short shelf-life, and intelligent people will finally figure out that they've been LIED to???? When will FAIR, and the Church, suddenly realize that an Only True Church does not need LIES to help it along?

Ignorant

Actually, it's DAMU's that keep recycling old lies of their own like this one which I've heard now for 30+ years of my existence in this world. Notice that no reference is made to what the prophets supposedly said and no consideration will be given to the long standing rules for official doctrine beginning with 1835's D&C 107 that the Church itself adheres to.

bcspace,

The Curse of Cain DOCTRINE was called "a doctrine of the Church" many times, in letters by the FP, etc. Never was it presented as "personal opinion".

If I went up to a bishop tomorrow and said, "You know, what the Living Prophet says in General Conference is his own opinion, not doctrine, because doctrine is only found in the Standard Works!" he would look at me like I asked him the price of a Yak on Uranus, and say, "Well, you need to RETHINK your toughts, because YOU ARE TOTALLY OUT OF LINE with what the Brethren teach!"

I know bishops would tell me that, because, I've SAID that to plenty of bishops, an they told me what I just wrote. So...nice try bcspace...but you are a Mormon Revisionist, re-inventing Mormon history in order to suit you own fancies. But Truth is not like that Truth is truth, regardless of our own personal fancies. Please STOP trying to re-write Mormon history! It's the Church's job to re-write Mormon history.
