Bill Maher reclaimed Mitt Romney's father-in-law Edward Davies, an atheist, from the Mormon church recently on live television. Hallelujah!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nZf0xlgJrkYWho should he reclaim next? (I think Holocaust victims myself.)
On an unrelated issue here's a recent Maher editorial about
Saul Alinsky who apparently is Pres. Obama's guru according to the right-wring.

.
I don't know. I suppose that we should begin to mock all religious belief. Nothing should be sacred or personal anymore. Just mock and bash and hope for higher ratings. We can even tell a few Mormon jokes it helps get more viewers. Why not. It is all about money and Maher is certainly making it.
But I do want to see him mock islam or judeaism. That should be a real ratings boost to his career. What do you think?

He's been making Mormon jokes for years.

He does. Although he's far harder on Islam for its misogyny and general intolerance. Judaism has the same creation myth problems that Christianity has.
You're obviously not familiar with his material because he's been doing politically incorrect television for almost 20 years (
Politically Incorrect 1993-2002 and
Real Time 2003-present) he also did a movie
Religulous that pointed out some of the illogical parts of all religions in addition to his stand up comedy that riffs on the same material. While he does get paid to do his work it's obvious that he actually holds the opinions he says.

I think this is supposed to be satire???
These satire shows are always funnier when they are done with a hint of good faith. It also helps when they play off a correct understanding of something, and not an ignorant understanding.
What I don't like is how Maher's material is accepted as correct by many people. Whether it is the audience that takes what he says as gospel, or whether it is Maher who fails to convey that his 'humor' is based on ignorance - I don't know.
Obviously people here can put it in context (I hope). However around the internets and off there are many people who will get, and accept, completely false impressions about baptisms for the dead.

Personal? Then why don't those that choose to believe in that for which there is no or only contrary evidence keep it to themselves? Organized religions are all about spreading it. Ever heard of missionary programs, for example?
Sacred? Why is it if a child believes something for which there is no or only contrary evidence, we teach them otherwise? But if it is an adult that believes something for which there is no or only contrary evidence, you think it's off limits, because it's 'sacred'?

It is damn funny. It points up the absurdity of baptism for the dead.
I've always wondered, why can't they be baptized in the spirit world, by someone there with priesthood authority, and submersed in spirit water?
If it's okay for them to accept/reject baptism as disembodied spirits in the spirit world, why can't they perform it there?
Oh, is it, it must be in a physical body thing? Then that kind of negates their 'accepting' of it at a time when they don't have a body, right?
Is Mormonism really this stupid?

The idea that all people should silently show respect to the most ridiculous ideas or claims simply because it is "religion" is absurd.
Mormons ought to be able to appreciate that this particular practice really does look ridiculous to outsiders. If they can't appreciate that, they've lived in the Mormon Bubble too long.
by the way, the Mormon church can look forward to much, much more of the same if Romney gets the nomination.
