I've returned from my winter break in Las Vegas. Motley Crue put on one of the most amazing, entertaining rock shows I recall. The staging, the visuals, the antics all helped out a catalog of 7 or 8 great songs fill out a two hour show with another 8 or 9 shows thrown in. (The Crue is playing at the Joint at the Hard Rock Casino through Feb 19--I'd recommend you take in one of their performances if you are in the vicinity.)
Walking along the Strip Tuesday afternoon, a rather ratty, unkempt nearly street urchin guy (about 60 years old) passed by us and asked if we go to church. My wife and I both said, "no". He said he didn't either, been lied to too many times at church.
I was as surprised by the fact I yet have the look that I might be a church goer as I was by the wisdom on the Strip.

Though I've been in or through Vegas many times, I have never walked along the strip. Perhaps I'll get to do that next month when I'm there for a long weekend to visit family.

by the way, does anyone know why almost everyone says the name of the city as if it were "Los Vegas", not "Las Vegas"?

I think people automatically want to say "Vegas" and use "Los" (sometimes just a "lsss" sound) because it's associated with Los Angeles.

I live in "Las" Angeles (that is how most non hispanics pronounce it here) and I think most people say Las Vegas.
