Steve Benson's thread on RfM
Steve Benson started a fun thread at RfM. This is the title:
How the Mormon Church can stop the plummet in activity....
Regardless of whether or not a plummet in activity is happening (I really don't want to get into that argument...not the point of this thread...), here are some ideas that I think would make Church better:
Consistently support dual ceremonies in the case of marriages where the parents of one of the newlyweds are non-members.
Bring back some of the fun aspects of the "older" Church activities such as Ward auctions, Relief Society bazarres, road shows, dance festivals, etc.
Do away with the pioneer trek replacing youth conference every other year! Let the kids have their dances!!
Bring back the Gold and Green Ball as a formal dance honoring the Seniors in High School.
Shorten Church meetings on Sundays to 1 1/2 hours.

Stop insisting that every church activity have a "gospel purpose." Sometimes just getting together and having fun builds a sense of community and brotherhood.
Bring back "super-activities" that don't have fund-raising restrictions (and get rid of the 90-minute away rule).

Allow garment free Fridays.

This and all that goes with it. I would attend them and I would even knit, crochet, can, cook and quilt items to donate to them!

Utilize the Church funds to build more BYU campuses. Since my tithing dollars are paying for a select subset of youth to attend, how about making those campuses more accessible so more LDS kids can take advantage of them? If we have money for malls, we have money for college campuses across the US.

I miss Road Shows. They were so much fun.
We also had original film contests one year...and speech contests. We also had a Stake Musical.

Allow general authorities to publish theological works with out being reviewed by the hierarchy.
The same for conference talks.
