DCP Encourages Email Campaign Against Black Journalist

This journalist Charles M. Blow, who is African American, made an off-the-cuff comment on his Twitter feed in reaction to a comment about that Romney made about single parents (Blow is apparently a single parent himself). So, in other words, this was a rather casual, knee-jerk response to something that appears to be an emotional issue for Mr. Blow. This comment has no obvious connection whatsoever to Blow's job with the New York Times, and yet DCP is urging readers of his blog to complain to Blow's boss:

Perhaps it's only me, but I think this is another of the entries that Dan should delete from his blog. This just isn't very nice at all.

And lest anyone think that the issue of race is irrelevant here, I'll point out that in another recent blog posting, DCP essentially admitted that he was engaging in "tokenism" by advocating for a Black LDS political candidate--hoping that her election could be "used" to help improve the Church's race-related image problems.

I'm glad you agree, BC. The thing is: Dan won't face criticism if he just blogs. If he slips back into his old habit of attacking people, engaging in smear tactics, and seeking endlessly to exact revenge, he's going to be met with resistance. If he's genuinely interested in turning over a new leaf, though, then he needs to knock this stuff off.

It seems apparent you don't understand the nature of my agreement. I read what Blow wrote days ago and tend to agree that he's no journalist in any sense of the word.

I haven't read the link, but I am guessing as to the comment in question because of something Romney said during the Arizona debate that struck me as poorly worded. It had to do with race and the disproportionate number of children born to single parents or out of wedlock among certain races. When Romney made that comment, I thought it would be one of the major issues brought up the next day in the news. It quacked, walked, and looked like a racist duck. Add that to his comment about SB1070 being a model for dealing with immigration issues at the national level and I thought he'd be working overtime explaining that into tomorrow's primary elections.

Instead, he managed to make his and his wife's choice of cars (number of, make and model) a more significant issue. Wow. I wonder what would have happened had that been a debate in the general election rather than a Republican debate?

As to DCP, I don't know what his beef is specifically since I haven't read the exact wording of the journalist.

“Let me just tell you this Mitt ‘Muddle Mouth’: I’m a single parent and my kids are *amazing*! Stick that in your magic underwear.”

Like I said: he was clearly responding to something that Romney said that made him react in an emotional way. Daniel Peterson's response to this is to go after the man's job. I don't think that's right.

And you are dead right, Honor: Blow was hauled out on the carpet and forced to 'apologize,' but we haven't seen anything similar for Romney.

If you're not going to allow comments on your secret public journal then write it in your secret private journal. Not a knock on Dr. Peterson's blog my opinion on blogs in general. Not a very good way to attract traffic either. I didn't know Dr. Peterson had a blog til tonight.

(Dr. Peterson's support of Romney saddens me, although Santorum supporters sadden me more so there's that. Self reflectively I know that Dr. Peterson gives not a crap what I think so I'm sure he lolz when he reads here.)

Given that I'm not a single parent and Caucasian and I still reacted to his comment negatively, I don't think what Blow said is particularly offensive in the least. In particular, calling him "Muddle Mouth" suggests it is the same Romney comment I thought it might be and he had a similar thought to the one I had - Mitt should shut up as he was well past putting his foot in his mouth at that point and was working his jaw around the ankle.

Think about what has happened here. Blow heard this comment. It angered him and made him feel emotional and protective. He let fly with his instinctive thoughts on Twitter. Dan Peterson's response is to go after the man's job. Not only does Dan do this, he urges his blog followers to do the same!

So....DCP would presumably approve of online posters contacting the Head of BYU and Deseret News with complaints about his less than polite interactions on here for example?
